Is "The Coon" okay as a username?

I hadn't noticed this before, but a status comment points out that we have a user named "the coon". LINK Are we okay with this?

Here's a dictionary definition:

coon (ko͞on)

n.
1. Informal A raccoon.
2. Offensive Slang Used as a disparaging term for a black person.




Should we ask that user to select a new username?

 
Pretty sure that account was created after Gangwish's incident with the raccoon last year. So I'm pretty sure there aren't any bad intentions.

 
Doesn't look like it's been used in nine months so it's probably run it's course. Unless it makes a comeback with Gangwish getting more playing time this year.

 
Given that a "coon" is a racial epithet maybe we should ask the guy to change it. Or better yet, maybe we should just change it to The Raccoon. If there's no nefarious intent by the guy I suspect he won't mind.

I wasn't aware, either. Since it seems to be and the issue was raised, asking him to change it seems reasonable. Without a response we could modify the display name. It's not a major move and it might cover us in some way, although I'll let the lawyers chime in on that one

Sorry guys, when I say coon I'm talking about the furry little woodland creature.

But since PC is the modus operandi now a days. Sure, why not.

 
I am confident that the username was created in jest and in reference to the Gangwish/raccoon situation, as Mav mentioned. However, it is not an innocuous term, and the further we get away from its original reference point, the more likely others will mistaken its intent. "Coon" is a rather old and somewhat outdated term, but there are pockets of the population that still use it. Maybe we could request he change it to something more overt to its intended meaning like "Raccoon" or "Gangwish's Raccoon". After the FauxPelini/Cat saga, I could see someone creating an account like "The pu&&y" or "Bo's pu&&y", but I doubt that would be allowed, despite its clear intent to reference the Bo/Cat obsession.
