It's put up or shut up time

Yes, it's a non-conference game. No, it's not the end of the world if we lose.

But I am SICK AND TIRED of everyone asking "Is Nebraska back?" I've been hearing that for like a decade now.

Can we just go out tomorrow and kick some a$$ please and be done with it already? :box

This is one of the few times that I have understood everything in your post. :cheers

Couldn't agree more! I've been waiting for this game for a long time now, and am looking forward to a physical football game!! :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t

Don't we have to put this game into persective? So let's assume we beat VT. This puts them at 1-2. Next week, they play Miami and very well could lose. What will a 1-3 team be ranked by week 4 or 5? They won't be meaning maybe VT wasn't as good as preseason rank. Shocker there. Let's assume they beat us and lose to Miami. Again, what will a 2-2 team be ranked by week 4 and 5? Not very high if at all. Aren't we all putting a little too much stock in their current ranking?

No because that is how the that winless vs. the top 20 on the road stat is figured. How they were ranked coming into the game. If nothing else, shut people up and start worrying about the next game.

At the end of the season if VT is unranked, will the win really mean that much? Will it really mean Nebraska has turned the corner?
That's the rub. When you have been down as long as NU has, it is assumed that whoever NU beats sucks. If NU keeps winning that will take care of itself.

I hate to put too much stock in this game tomorrow, but if we lose I think it's a step back for us for sure. Mainly it will cost us some confidence that we will need later in the season. If we lose tomorrow, I figure we're 9-4 at best this year. Win and we might just lose 1 game.

It will mean that NU went into VT and won, nothing more and nothing less. You can't control that, fact is that right now VT is ranked 13th in the country. If NU wins tomorrow then that means the streak of being winless against the Top 20 on the road is done, regardless of what happens to VT later on.

I was talking more about Nebraska and turning the corner. Let's assume we beat VT and they go unranked. Can we really say Nebraska has turned the corner if VT is unranked at season's end? I could care less about the not beating a top 20 team crap. I'm more concerned about heading in the right direction. So what if we beat VT Saturday but go on to get absolutely thumped by OU or maybe even KU and Mizzou. Beating VT will mean very little to me if we lose to OU, KU, Mizzou, etc.

Then you just answered your question then. At the end of the season, it won't matter just what VT did, but also what NU did and the future opponents did. You won't sit at the end of the season with NU being 10-2 and not say they turned a corner I don't think.

Damn straight - Who gives two $h**s about what VT does down the road, this would be a good win and a great step toward moving NEBRASKA forward. VT is ranked #13 for one reason or another, have a great home record ,and you've gotta take what's given to you now.

It would be a good win, but then again it would come against an opponent that would be 1-2. I think people are putting way too much into this game. I'm much more concerned and interested in how we stack up against the rest of the Big 12. Turning the corner isn't beating VT. Turning the corner is beating Texas, OU, and winning the Big 12 or at least being competitive with them. If we beat VT, the media pundits will spin it as them being overrated which will probably be true. Alabama dominated them.
