Jerry Kill's teardown of PJ Fleck is rare in college football coaching

Or it shows that he's trying to set an example of professionalism and maturity for a program that was in a good amount of dysfunction and lacking in some strong leadership? Or it shows that he just likes looking good? Or maybe it's different amounts of all three, or two of the three.

Wearing a suit does not equal your very specific interpretation of what wearing a suit represents.

What? When I see PJ wearing that cut/style and print of a suit it says something to me.  It obviously doesn't say the same thing to you and that is fine. It doesn't scream professionalism and maturity to me. He is trying to make a statement. He is dressing for effect.  Sorry it doesn't work for me.

Yeah I kind of agree that Kill really didn't do his old school any good with this interview.  Is he trying to get Fleck fired?  I get that he's pissed (obv) and who knows.  Maybe some of things he said were true but saying all of this in public about the current head coach of the program he claims to still root for.  Does the program zero favors that's for sure.  I've always liked coach Kill but regardless if what he says was true or partially true or whatever in the end this just makes him look bitter more than anything else.  What truly matters is if the players like and respect him (Fleck) and most importantly will go to war for him.

I can''t help but feel this is going to come back to bite Minnesota badly. A guy posts the worst 8-0 record imaginable and you decide to throw everything you have at him? Was the administration that afraid someone was going to poach him? Did the big wins over Rutgers and Maryland get the AD hot and bothered? Gotta wait until the end of the season. Minnesota could easily go 0-4 the rest of the way.

Here are his conference wins in 23 games played:

Illinois (twice)

Nebraska (twice)

Indiana

Purdue (twice)

Wisconsin

Rutgers

Maryland

The combined conference record of those teams in each respective year is 23-52. He is only 10-13 in conference play through 2+ seasons. You don't sell the farm for that kind of performance.

I have always liked Fleck. Even when he was at WMU. Even though he is over bearing. Minnesota hasn’t done this since when....the 60s. Even if he goes 1 and 3 in the remaining games it’s a big win for that program. I will be watching PSU vs Minny and pulling for the Gophers.

I get it but as an AD you are much better off doing what he did than doing nothing.  Money is not the issue, they made what, like 50 million last year?

Everyone looks really bad here.  I get why Kill is ticked but he comes across so petty and like a whiner that it's hard to take him seriously.  Did Claeys get a bit of a raw deal?  Probably.  At the same time you had a huge sex assault issue coupled with the fact that the former AD resigned due to sexual harassment which meant that Claeys had to get clipped.  I don't get Fleck's schtick at all and maybe that's because I've never been in an environment both work-wise or sports-wise that required a little motto or something to work towards.  The thing is, in my opinion the weird gimmick stuff only works at the G5 level and lower P5 level.  It feels so forced and contrived.  Can you imagine Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan or freaking Iowa rolling out some stupid catch phrase?  We'd be laughing our a**es off at Iowa if they did something like this.  The only P5 team I can think of that has a bit of a gimmick is Clemson with Howard's Rock but the backstory on it is pretty cool and has dated back to the 60s.  Plus the Clemson entrance where they touch the rock and sprint down the hill through the crowds is awesome

THIS... is why I usually never say ''Go Big Red'' out loud.   (sawry)
