Joe Ganz on OWH The Bottom Line today

Joe is down about 45 lbs from his playing weight (topped out at 212).

Ganz was asked which players he likes for the next few years. He does say it depends a lot on the system and the personnel they are going to use.

He said Brandon Reilly - fast, reminds Ganz of Swift, more straight-line speed, good route-runner. Would have contributed a lot this past year if he hadn't pulled his hamstring.

Commenting on Ohio State game when NU got booed at home, and then Bo made his comments on the fans' negativity. Ganz was excited and pumped, while Bo wanted to focus on the fans booing. Ganz says even though nobody wants to get booed at home, the team kind of deserved it after the way they played in the first half.

That's pretty interesting. Gotta remember we were fresh off a blowout at Wisconsin the week prior, and the first half was just a continuation of that game.

Mo Purify had a ton of talent, too bad they didn't have more time together. Swift and Peterson worked so well together at NU.

Sean Callahan on with Severe and Ganz. Callahan thinks BC gave Sam Keller a "wink-wink" agreement to give Keller the starting QB job in '07.

Severe remembers watching practice in '06, and he thought Ganz was the best QB out of Keller, Lee, and Ganz.

Ganz says "If I had started over Keller, and the team continued to lose, that might have cost BC his job right away."

Still takes it to his grave that he beat out Keller during Spring and Fall camp.

Didn't transfer away from NU, because he knew the team would need a backup QB. Stayed for his teammates (Slauson, Swift, Peterson, etc.)

He enjoyed kicking Keller's a$$ every day in practice though.

2006 Callahan team had enough talent to win the Big 12 Championship.

2007 - Cosgrove overthought things on defense and went down hill in a hurry.

2007 - scheme wasn't great, and the talent NU had wasn't ready to make strides. Plus, that was probably the best Big 12 conference ever, and a tough out of conference schedule.

Ganz - there is no secret to CFB. All you need is good DL and OL. We saw it at tOSU this yr

Under Callahan, the QB needed to be able to understand and communicate the plays in the huddle. If you couldn't do that, you didn't have a chance. Happened to a lot of QB's that were at NU under BC.

Owes a lot of success to Zac Taylor, spent 2 years at "Starting QB college" under Taylor.

Ganz - will be hard to beat out Armstrong at QB due to his experience and leadership abilities

One guy to look out for is AJ Bush. Bush is tall, smooth, athletic (and about 5 more positive attributes).
