Joe Ganz on OWH The Bottom Line today

S Callahan - doesn't understand why Joe Burrow wasn't recruited by Beck. Langsdorf will recruit him hard to try and flip him.

Ganz - loved what he saw from Burrow. Burrow is a bigger, more athletic version of himself. Were going to offer him at NU's camp, but then Burrow committed to Ohio State.

Ganz - reason why Fife (and other Nebraska kids who come to NU but don't get much PT) is the "chance" to play. Fife struggles learning in the classroom and taking it to the field. Lot of mental mistakes at QB. As a coach, it's hard to trust a guy when he struggles in practice.

S Callahan - tough for QB's and RB's from Nebraska to beat out QB's from CA, TX, FL, and other states that have bigger/better programs where kids can get exposure and coaching.

Ganz - can I realistically get the top guys or top 5 QB's. Most of those guys are going to stay closer to home. Need to lock in the best players within the 500 mile radius. Defense is good because of Collins from KC and Valentine.

S Callahan - Patrick Witt was a jerk, and their family was used to getting what they wanted. Family expected Witt to get the QB job over Lee in '09.

Ganz - Witt had very small hands

That is what I liked about some of the previous coaching staff, the ability to turn 3 star rated guys into NFL caliber players and All-Americans. Its not an easy job, and it takes both coach and player to work at it, and I felt certain players and coaches never got the recognition they deserved for it.

There have been a lot of questions regarding player development. Some kids were able to develop, some of them weren't. I think the best ones were guys that were willing to put in the work themselves. Braylon Heard and Aaron Green realized they weren't going to outwork Ameer, so they left.
