How far is Ann Arbor from the nearest amusement park compared to Worlds of Fun from Lincoln?
Actually Cedar Point which is called the rollercoaster capital of the world is only 2 hours from Ann Arbor!

Not sure proximity to an amusement park is a deciding factor a recruit would consider.
And with this one simple statement, you have sucked all the fun out of this entire arguement. Not sure proximity to an amusement park is a deciding factor a recruit would consider. Places such as Tuscaloosa, AL and Columbus, OH are not exactly hotbeds of culture and entertainment. A D1 athlete typically has little free time what with workouts, practice ,film study as well as classwork both in season or out.
So, we're going to only use win-loss records when evaluating how good a team was? Heck, why did we even bother firing Bo then? In Bo's tenure, the only time we finished the season ranked top 20 was in 2009 and 2010. The 2009 Nebraska team would have destroyed the 2014 Nebraska team.Considering Bo had the same win-loss record every year the entire time he was here, I would say that his recruiting was just as good as Callahan's.Um, Clownahan was a lot of things. However, being a poor recruiter wasn't one of them. Bo's best years here at Nebraska were with Clownahan recruits. Just because he was pi$$ poor at player development doesn't mean he couldn't recruit. Just because a coach is a great recruiter doesn't mean he will be successful. If this were the case, Hoke would still be at Michigan.Damn, I knew we should have kept Calahan. What is the one thing that nearly every single D1 recruit with a star rating of three or higher wants to achieve? They want to play in the NFL, correct? Which university you mention has a coach who just came from the NFL? Which school has a coach that coached his team to the Super Bowl? Which school has a coach that put Stanford back on the football map?this is a good post. But me personally I still dont see where it answers my question of what does Michigan have to offer that we dont in a big picture.Michigan has just as much to offer as Nebraska as far as tradition, support, etc goes. They have a bigger name coach, which doesn't mean better, but it's a recruiting draw. They're also one of the best public universities in the country and Ann Arbor probably has bigger draw than Lincoln.
It isn't a huge stretch to think that Michigan will reassert themselves quickly under Harbaugh. Hoke was a bad coach, not a bad recruiter. Nebraska has a culture hurdle to cross before it can move forward (thanks, Bo) and this team has not been left in great shape. How many of you are solid about what we have at quarterback right now? That's not to mention potential serious problem spots at LB and DE that the new staff is inheriting.
Sorry, didn't mean to be such a downer there. The sky isn't falling here by a long shot, but Michigan is a formidable opponent in any recruiting battle.
I'm not tryin to find a way to say Nebraska has something to offer that Michigan doesnt. I think the two are pretty damn equal. But it just feels like there's this perception natianally that compariing Nebraska to Michigan is like comparing Nebraska to say Florida or USC in the recruiting front right now. And to me when you look at some recruiting disadvantage perceptions such as weather, midwest, Big10, and so on, Michigan isnt free from those kinda things either.
So it's not really about being better but being equal. And I still dont see where an opportunity at Michigan blows out of the water an opportunity at Nebraska.
If Pete Carroll quit the Seahawks today and was named the HC at Wyoming, I'd argue he'd have no problem luring top talent to Laramie. I'm not sure how much attention potential recruits pay attention to money and such, but Michigan just made Harbaugh the highest paid college coach. I'd see this as a great commitment to the sport I'm being recruited to play.
I'm excited about our situation here at Nebraska and Riley as our coach. However, it's pretty easy to see why Michigan will enjoy an easier time recruiting.![]()
It's obligatory to mention that Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and Red Hot Chili Peppers all played the same show at the PP ballroom back in the early nineties. I don't think I had heard of Pearl Jam at the time but still enjoyed their contribution.I dont know when it closed, but like I said, I was about 5 or so. late 80's.Wow. Peony Park. We are really bringing up the old days now.Lol. I knew it would. I couldnt remember exactly how it was spelled. I went there once. I was 5. And it was cloudy and rainy.I know this is trivial but "Peeny" made me laugh more than I probably should have. It's Peony. Like the plant.damnit. They never shoulda closed Peeny Park. That ruined Husker Football. We just didnt know it yet.AA is about 2.5-3 hours from Cedar Point. Lincoln is probably 3.5-4 hours from WOF.How far is Ann Arbor from the nearest amusement park compared to Worlds of Fun from Lincoln?
And even thought theyre across the river (or ON the river if you will), there are legit casinos just 40 minutes down the road from Lincoln.
Been to both parks, CP is so much better than WOF, its not even fair. Their Millenium Force makes the Mamba look like the little alligator roller coaster at Fun Plex. You Omaha people with little kids will know exactly what ride Im talking about at Fun Plex.

Research says it closed in 1994. Pretty safe to say that though we didnt know it then, that was the beginning of the end of Nebraska football. Hasnt been the same since.

the number one team in wins, needing to get back on course. The university spending a lot of money to get a top NFL coach, says there is a plan at Michigan, a plan to win. I understand why the kids go, Coach Riley has to figure a way to combat that. You want a challenge, try recruiting to the Marine Corps over the Air Force. First in, first to die, sleep in a sand fox hole or in pouring rain, humidity, eat out of a can, or set back at rear base and load planes, work on jets eat at the mess hall every night. You have to find that kids button. This staff is working hard, have developed talent in the past. Were going to lose some, no big deal unless they are 5 stars that are projected to play immediately. We don't get many of those.
X2. I hope next year with a full year, he will be going after recruits he likes, not just ones that are already committed in B10. This isn't a shot at him, I get it for this year.Remember when everyone was saying how Harbaugh to Michigan would make the B1G conference that much better? Well Harbaugh's poaching of B1G recruits isn't helping to improve the conference. Just sayin..
