LSU TE Transfer joins Huskers

Sounds like he has work to do as a receiver but is a pretty mature blocker.

But with as much as we like to use tight ends, that will probably find him a spot in the rotation.  Though still doesn't sound like it'll be this year.

I read up on TigerDroppings, seems like their best guess is that he was being passed up on the depth chart, but even then they were kinda scratching their heads about exactly why he left. Sounds like he's better as a blocker than a receiver, which might have something to do with it.

Does anyone believe this is how it happened?

It’s not “Longest Yard” or “Necessary Roughness”.  Next thing we will hear is some coach saw him at Runza and asked him if he played ball.
If I had to guess, Keith Williams played a part through his St. Louis connections and getting the initial door open.

Though surprising to see him pop up now versus the start of training camp, I wonder if Rhule wanted to have the initial 120 be comprised of only players who went through summer workouts.

This new world of college football is weird.

is there an official enroll or attend by date? Or can a guy bail out anytime?  Does his late enroll date mean he can’t play this year?  Don’t see how this happens in the future when there is a roster cap

The Reddit Bureau of all things Husker cannot come to a consensus on his eligibility for this year. Some same say he must wait for the portal to open in December, others say he can join as a walk on.

Possible timeline for him to be eligible to play:

Guy leaves LSU

Guy just shows up at Nebraska and enrolls in classes

Guy shows up at the football offices and asks if he can Walk-on

Guy can play as he didn't enter the portal and there was zero interaction between him and the football coaches before he arrived at NU and started classes

The murky part comes in with how did he know all this information and the steps to take to possibly become eligible to play right away.

You would think we-as in the University- know the rules and would not jeopardizes our standing.  Unless there are no rules.

he is at practice, right?  Maybe he’s going to sit it out until December.  If there is a small crack- after fall camp, but before game one, he sure did find it.

The enroll by date is set by each school.  As long as you can get there by the last day to register for classes, you're good.  The big variable is schools on a quarters system instead of semesters.

Is there a date portal guys have to pick a school by?  Could he have been in the portal this whole time and just now decided to pick Nebraska?

There were several reports that he entered the portal on August 6.

I'd like to believe any communication happened through 3rd parties and no one in the athletic department walked him through the steps, but this feels like a lets play it safe and not play this guy until December/next year to make sure there are no compliance issues.
