Lucky is an average back

I have never been on the Lucky bandwagon. He hasn't demonstrated, to me, that he is worthy of being the #1 back in this offense. He's great in the open field or when there is a huge hole (as are many other collegiate backs that didn't receive the hype that he did). After the Wake Forest game, I mentioned that I wasn't convinced that Lucky is our best back and there were those that replied that he indeed was. What, pray tell, is it about Lucky that people find so awesome???? I don't know if we have a #1 back....a feature back, so to speak.

We don't and that to me is a problem because we are missing that consistency that we so desperately need. I think Castille in the long run is going to be an outstanding back, but he's not going to get better if Cally doesn't play him more.

Lucky has shown some explosiveness last year and some this year in the open field. However, he tends to be indecisive when picking his running lanes. Too much east and west running.

I have never been a big fan of Marlon. But he bailed our butts out a couple of times Saturday.

He is just to slow to make the decision. Too slow getting out of the backfield for me. But he is doing things that he said he was not capable of doing. Lots of carries and receptions yesterday. He may turn the corner, but I think he is an adequate back, just like we have had for the last 6-7 years. Nothing earth shattering, but gets the job done in a manner of speaking. He is what we have so we need to support him.

I still support the guy if he is giving us gains and helping us not hurting us. :thumbs

I think as fans we need to pull together now!

This team is close to splitting apart I am afraid. We do not need that!

We are 3-1 heading into conference play. We all need to get on the bandwagon one more time and let them know we are behind them, not against them.

But for each big run, how many times does he get stopped for <1? I don't know, but it sure seems like a lot. I'd rather see someone who could consistently get ~3 yards (like Cory Ross) and *might* get a big run, than someone who gets stuffed except on the occasional big run. A huge run is dramatic, but if they don't materialize then we depend on the air or go 3&out (or both).

I think you are severely discounting a few things here. Lucky is the best all around back we have.

First, his pass protection is excellent. His pick ups yesterday were excellent.

Second, he is our best pass catching back. Another feature that a WCO back should have and he does.

Everyone loves to see a NU back racing down the sidelines however in a offense like Callahan's you need a starting back that can do more.

I would say that you could definitely argue that he isn't the best pure RB on the team.

To me he's definitely not the best pure runner we've got. But I agree he's the most complete back, and that's what we need from a starter in this offense. He definitely can be indecisive at times...sometimes it bites him in the a$$, but other times he ends up making more yards from it than others would have. In the end I think it evens out, but his versatility is what makes him our current best choice as the starter.

he...will most likely be in the running for the heisman next yr.
What brings you to this conclusion? Other than the one good game against Nevada he hasn't done jack.

There's no way he can hang with P.J. Hill, Steve Slaton (if he stays) or Percy Harvin/Tim Tebow

That would be nice.......I just don't see that in the cards though. I agree he is good in space but other than that.......

I would like to see Castille get more carries so we can really see what he has got.
