Macroboy avatar

As far as I know, we don't necessarily have any rules for what can/can't be in an avatar outside of general board rules about posting inappropriate content. I noticed macroboy has a popular image of Trump/Putin kissing. I've attached it below.

Overall, it's not something I care too deeply about. I don't usually get worked about these sort of things, but I also know other people aren't like me. This board has also garnered an unfortunate reputation (from select members) about being unfriendly to people with conservative viewpoints. This type of avatar could rub folks the wrong way.

What's everybody else's take? I can PM/discuss it with them if we feel it's necessary. I lean towards not saying anything unless it becomes an issue, but wanted to get other thoughts.

I'd also lean towards not saying anything. I don't think it's inappropriate so much as it is a strong political statement. I wonder where the line should be drawn on that. It's always possible that too much P&R spillover can happen, but I think this has probably caused as little issue or notice as the small collection of anti-Obama avatars we've seen here in the past.

Eh, that's a tough one to try and enforce something or really have a discussion. I'd say let it be for now unless it causes a huge uproar for some reason.

I'm generally pretty hands-off on things but I'm not sure that's really appropriate. I've noticed it before and it drew some discussion in a status update awhile ago.

I think it's fine to make a strong political statement in the P&R forum but this obviously goes everywhere he posts.

If we're going to get pretty up-tight about one poster calling a female political candidate a man, I'm not sure how there can be a distinction between that and depicting a heterosexual male in a homosexual embrace with a foreign leader.

Yeah, there was a big deal made about it in a status update and a bunch of arguing in there. People did have dumb anti-Obama ones too, but I don't really remember any as weird as that one.

I don't really care what people's political beliefs are, but I'm of the mindset that first and foremost, this is a forum about Nebraska athletics. Politics spilling over can be (and is) a huge turnoff to current (and new) users. There's been ALOT more of that kind of stuff happening since Trump won and I get that it's definitely a , uh, unique time in American politics.

I've been saying it for a a little while, but IMO, once the season starts, I think that we should encourage the P&R stuff to stay in the P&R forum. It's what drives most of the drama around here, and if the season goes as projected, we're gonna have enough arguing on our hands about that.

Since I did not see the argument about this avatar in the status updates, did any poster ask him to take it down, or was it run of the mill political banter about the avatar?

I think someone just commented that they thought the picture was hypocritical. I don't think they were really offended by it.

All good points, including your take saunders. I agree with some of what you're saying. I think avatar freedom only goes so far as overall board impact. To your point, this is a Husker football forum first and foremost, and we know it could be accessed by younger kids and families.

And even though I doubt it will breed more heavily politicized avatars, this is different than say somebody having a pro Trump or Clinton avatar. It's two of the world's most powerful and controversial people sharing a kiss. It's one thing to post the photo in P&R where people would have to seek it out or lurk those forums to see it. Having it as an avatar forces all to see it unless you put him on ignore.

I'm still leaning towards not saying anything and seeing how it plays out, but I'm fairly 50/50 on this.

I think that's kinda where we're all at, but if it starts becoming an issue, then we take care of it.
