It had been mentioned before, but it was more piggy backing the scenario the two prior posts were discussing.  So calm down princess

Topical.

Here's the post that caused him to tell me to call down and call me princess:

"Make a list of posters you think think that? Really not sure what you and Nobody are reading."

Hey, you were getting hysterical. And maybe a bit shrill. You just come across as a little abrasive, you know? Shouldn't you be worrying about your makeup, or something? Now go make a sandwich (ha, ha, jokes).

Am I doing this right?

Yeah but it's not quite the same as the history of whites being the only skin color represented in Hollywood, even for non-white roles, is it?

No, it's not. And as I said, it doesn't bother me at all, I think Elba is fantastic. When Matt Damon was cast to play an Asian in that one movie (?) a couple years ago that was annoying (I get it though, Matt Damon sells in the box office)

Bargaining/Haggling term based on the stereotype of Jewish people being cheap....

Full disclosure, I'd make a bet that if you were close to a lot of Jewish people who actually suffered from prejudice and hate in their lives, you'd probably eventually get to the point of, "Hmm, yeah, there's no reason I need to say that."

Also, there's not really a high level of sensitivity in this thread.

Depends, what kind of sandwich?

Anecdotally, here on huskerboard, think about  @girlknowsfootball. Have never in my time here been like "lol that's a weird and unnecessary username"

Would certainly be odd if there was a poster named manknowsfootball
It's my username because I am a female who feels I have a pretty above average understanding of football compared to other females. I can keep up with the guys just fine ;)

Just spent some time reading through this thread. In reference to this comment:

I doubt that calling my buddy a c***sucker (which of course I have :D ), is holding back women's progress in this country/world.

Is the individual, one time example of you using that language with your buddy holding women back in the world? Probably not. Overall, it's a more minor issue in the scope of gender equality. In my opinion, however, it is an example of a relatively constant and pervasive piece of the puzzle. We have a lot of unfair societal "norms" or situations that often subtly or directly demean people of different genders, races, etc. They may seem trivial but they hint at an overall larger problem, much like your check engine light briefly turning on and then off hinting at the possibility that there might actually be something wrong with your car.

I think Moiraine is spot on in her assessment of these discussions, particularly the part about frequency and intent in relation to the above example.

terrible execution ;)

Yeah, I got that ... but ... why would you say that?

No good reason, to be honest. Other than it's just the "term" used to describe that action/situation.

So do you take issue with the term whitewashing?

Ah, I see. Yeah, it has to be habit. I'm familiar with the stereotypes and the jokes around it, but never seen that term or heard actually used in person. I'm kind of shocked that it is (well, also not shocked) -- it seems way, way across the line. And to your credit, it certainly doesn't seem like being able to use this term without pushback is something valuable or precious to you.

Not nearly as often as see women in ads where they're trying to show how easy the product is to use. This can be anything from yard work, to power tools, to creating a website.
Look at the percentage of comedies have the husband or guy being the idiot and the woman is the smart/normal one.

Good analogy.

These sorts of things being talked about aren't a problem in and of themselves (usually), the same way that a light on your dash isn't actually a problem. It's a warning sign and a symptom of the actual fundamental problem.
