*** Matt Rhule Hired as New Husker Head Coach ***

Curious what players are thinking \reacting on twitter.  Im sure if Mickey is back thats going to help a lot more. Seems Mickey would fit with what he wants to do with power RPO and getting WR touches with running the ball

Unsportsmanlike Conduct brought Shanle on to explain why he isn't in favor of Rhule.  Shanle spent 10 minutes rambling on a few things

  • Heard it was Rhule a couple weeks ago from a friend in the NFL who didn't have much good to say about Rhule (so a 2nd hand negative experience)
  • Rhule's experience is as a slow, re-builder, and he wanted someone who could come in right away and win - Urban Meyer, or try to hire Lincoln Riley last year (both unrealistic IMO)
  • Rhule's salary is too high for someone with a .500 record in college and a failure in the NFL (could be a fair comment, but that's the market rate)
  • NU should have tried to hire Fickell for $6M (fair point, but no one know if Fickell was interested in the NU rebuild)
  • Finally, he said, if we are going to give 2-3 years to Rhule to turn things around, we should have just given the job to Mickey, because he's a former Husker player and would have been a lot cheaper (the show hosts finally got him to admit that he was mad that Mickey wasn't getting the full-time job, and going to have a bad taste about anyone else)

I don't think there is anything wrong with a dissenting opinion, but I think his complaints were more emotional than rational thought.

Here is a link to the show replays.  https://1620thezone.com/unsportsmanlike-conduct-radio-replay/  It was segment 6 on Nov. 29th.

The hosts just sitting in disbelief at his delusional thoughts was the best part

Will Compton talks about Matt Rhule on Bussin with the Boys.

Mentions talking to guys that have played for Rhule, apparently Ameer Abdullah is very high on Rhule

I am all in!  Good luck Coach Rhule!   He's turned around lesser programs although the first year has been painful so better stock up the beer fridge.

I am happy with the hire and the process. I really hope Mickey can be retained on staff in some capacity. I like the timing of this because it give a chance for him and the staff to get some potential transfer portal guys. Cautiously optimistic....

Rhule improved Baylor 6 wins from year one to year two.  He can easily get us to a bowl game next year with just two more wins.

Let's pump the brakes on expectations for 2023.  I don't necessarily disagree with you, but we have no idea what the roster is going to be like next year, and what next year is going to be like.

I’m just happy to know next year i’ll actually be excited to see how we do. And since you can’t really start judging a new coach until he has some time to implement his changes we got hope for at least 2-3 seasons. Hopefully by then that hope gets a little bigger and we’re trying to win the west. Fingers crossed. Good luck to the new coach

I think any coaching will make a dramatic difference, especially on the OL (and hopefully the linebackers). But I truly believe it’s going to be mostly QB dependent next year. Thompson coming back or not to me is by far the single biggest determining factor.
