There's a little fracas brewed up between these two. matthew_m_g has fired a few pointed posts the way of johnnyrodgers, and it's gotten out of hand. I "hid" the posts in question at this time. You can find them HERE.

In my opinion these guys both deserve warnings for this exchange. matthew started it but johnny escalated it pretty quickly.

Thing is, if we give johnny another strike, that's #3. So far, all he's done is bicker with people. He's not as pointed as some we've had trouble with in the past, but he does it over and over and over. I don't know what to do about the guy. Minimum, I think he needs a week suspension. If that doesn't work, do we axe him for what he's been doing? I don't get the "trouble" vibe from him. I just get (pardon me) "hick."

 
My impression is that johnnyrodgers20 is exceedingly thin-skinned, brought about by his near-fanatacism. As for matthew_m_g - not sure what's going on there. I suspect he's tired of johnnyrodgers20's positions and posts, and perhaps even feels the guy can't debate. I dunno - but yeah, both guys need to cool it.

How about this? PM them - one PM so they can see you're talking to both of them. Tell them that enough is enough; if they can't tone it down or take it to the 'Shed in the future, suspensions and bans will follow. We appreciate them being on the board, but in the future if either of them posts something that offends the other, the one offended needs to report it or take it to the 'Shed.

I don't know if you think that will do it - I don't have a feel for them as posters enough to predict. If it will, give that a shot. If not, increase the warning level on each, suspend johnnyrodgers20 for a week, and let him know that the next outburst will be a ban. And remind him he has options - the Ignore function, taking it to the 'Shed, using the report system or PMing a Mod.

 
I think that will work with matthew. He'll still dig at johnnyrodgers, but not as pointedly as he does now.

I don't know if that will work with JR. I PMed him about his tone when he first joined and he responded by pointing out, via PM, every issue he had with every post in Politics & Religion. This went on for about a week before I finally got him to stop. I definitely get what you're saying about being a fanatic. He's darned close, if not 100% there already.

I'll let you know how the group session works out.

 
It's funny watching Cactusboy try and wiggle out of a net of his own making. First, it was criminal, as Carlfence noted. Now, he's claiming civil. And here's the laugher - I'm seriously considering breaking it to him that the standard I set out in the thread is the standard that would be applied in a civil case. Negligence has nothing to do with it - the only chance to win a civil case would be what's known as a Section 1983 action. Trouble is, the applicable standard for a Section 1983 action is the one I posted. A loss either way...
