Migrating the site to Xenforo

I have stated it before and will state it again. Husker Board will not be a subscription board. The revenue model is 100% advertising and not subscriptions.

...

If enough posters want the option to pay not to view the ads I will add that option. That would give those that do pay the ability to view the board without ads.

That was before posters using ad blockers. It's an option that I am putting out there. No more freeloading by those dishonest enough to circumvent the funding to keep this site going. It's like taking your bacon and eggs to the restaurant and ask them to cook it for free. A larger portion of the regulars on this board are doing exactly that and I am exploring options to keep this site going.

I would only pay this if the site actually functioned like a competent web designer was working on it. Right now, I’m not confident that will be the case. But, you would lose many members.

We have been complaining about this for years. I am on many sites that have ads that actually function correctly. This one never has since the ads started appearing.

you can have your ads for income (which we all understand you need) and still have a well functioning website. But, the people you are working with obviously either have no clue what they are doing or actually want the site to function like this.

This is a great site for Husker fans and I hope you get it all figured out.

Here's another thought. What if I made the entire site ad free and subscription only at $2 a month after the migration?

Eh, there's 6 topics on the main board that have had a reply in the last day.  It's pretty much dead.  Why would I pay for it?

Most of the entertaining posters were banned on trumped up charges and the site never recovered.

Personally, I think that's a guaranteed way of killing your investment.

People have been using adblockers for years, there is no 'before'. Many probably didn't even pay attention to the fact that theirs was on until the site popup made them turn it off, and then were probably fine with until the ads made the site unusable and unbearable. Having an ad-free option for $24 a year and an adblock checker would incentivize people into paying. Making the board a subscription board like huskermax which nobody here has ever liked and don't want will just make them leave imo.

Speaking for myself, I would pay the $24/year to go ad free. I’d still want to use my blocking browser because it prevents much more than just ads. Malware, phishing, trackers etc. My monthly report makes HB look like the most dangerous place on the internet with all the crap it blocks.

And to reiterate, using the blocking browser was never done with the thought of harming your income stream. It was only employed to protect my phone/computer and to make the site usable. Everyone knows it costs money to keep a site like this running. So, not freeloading even though it has the same effect from your POV. I’ll gladly pay $2/mo.

I hear you. The migration to Xenforo is in the works and it will have the ad free subscription option and a new ad agency that will screen out the click bait/malware ads.

In the meantime I have disabled all the ads except the bottom and top anchor ads.
