Good post. Defensively, there's a lot of heat on Banker and that might prove to be thoroughly deserved. But I also really like what I see from Bray -- and those guys are playing in Banker's defense. I am surprised, but I really like what I've seen from Hughes. Both are Banker's guys. Neither should be the DC over him, in my opinion.I think we compare more to Texas. Charlie Strong has been working through some poor attitude issues for a while now and still hasn't turned them around. When people are saying the players that gave the best effort today were the younger players, I'd say we have some issues. Riley's approach to handling things are different from Strong and might be preferable(...)
Defensively, I think Banker might have the correct scheme which makes sense for the B1G. A couple of factors- learning new scheme and player talent/effort make it difficult to say that it won't work. (...)
So it's a question of how to build on that. Maybe more time to implement and develop the roster will yield better results. Maybe not, but if Riley chooses to stick with Banker, I can respect it (for now).
Got to take a hard look at that secondary coach, though. He didn't inherit all-Americans exactly, but he didn't inherit chopped liver, either. Bray's made much of relatively little. Stew's made very little of more. How long does he get to show different?
