Baseball needs to get over itself.  It is called the hall of FAME, and not the hall of whatever we choose it to be and whomever we want to let in.  Build a controversy/betting/steroid wing if you want, but these guys were still some of the best baseball players ever.  As a fan, let me make up my own mind about them by reading and learning in the exhibit at the hall, and stop telling me what to think.

They  are in the hall. Their accolades anyway. It’s their Jersey’s that aren’t retired. 

 
I’ve never watched Miller pitch. 
 

He’s one of those guys where it looks like he’s throwing harder on an 88 mph changeup  than a 102 mph fast ball. 
 

He’s impressive. 
 

I think they said two years ago he was pitching D2 and then found out he has type 1 diabetes. He started treating it and could control his weight and health better….now he’s an all star. 
 

Wow….

Baseball is the only all star game worth watching in sports.

If they were the best, then why did they have to cheat?

Ok, Rose didn’t cheat to get better like the others. So, I’ll agree with that one. 
 

But, he still shouldn’t have gambled on baseball.

Rose admitted he only gambled on the Reds to win, and never to lose.  So it's hard to believe.  As a player he took amphetamines (greenies, uppers, speed) to become more alert and for energy.  I recall reading that in his book in HS.  And it wasn't until 2006 that MLB started testing for speed (amphetamines) as illegal.  Pete said a lot of players used it because the season is too long and hard on the body and mind to be laser-focused every day.

Just like the NBA, MLB also had a coke and speed issue during the 70s.  

I think as a player Pete Rose deserves HOF.  The gambling thing was when he was a manager / part time player - which was only a gimmick because he already had the all-time hit record.  As a manager - no.

In fact, Bill Russell is listed in the NBA HOF as a player.  Bill Russell is also in the NBA HOF as a manager.  He got in the hall at different times.  So MLB should keep Pete's manager stuff separate.

A lot of players could have been HOF players without steroids.  Some just became the greatest because of it.

I still have no answer why Harold Baines made it to the HOF, other than writers that vote can be hard-nosed purest idiots with agendas.  Dave Parker was way better the player, but yeah he smoked some cigarettes in the dugout during games and had coke at times.  Dave Kingman is way better than Baines,  but he hated talking to the media, the media voters hated him, and kept him out.  

The HOF is so ridiculous when it should be a celebrated thing.  And players from the era should vote.  And have more weight on the vote than some writer from Cali that hates Boston or never watched the Pirates play.

If you don't think Bonds is one of the top 5 best hitters to ever live, you don't know baseball.  He was the best before the steroids.   Neither needed to cheat to be great, but they did, so give them an asterisk but put them in there.

The Mets need the Braves to keep losing BECAUSE they play the Phillies so much.  The Braves have a much easier schedule than NYM to finish.

Mets beat up on the phils,  braves overtake them for the division and Mets get 3rd wild card spot. My thinking was very sound.
