NCAA in "Deep Discussion" to Implement Revenue Sharing with Athletes

Yeah I understand the 12 million is crazy but the 3-4 million dollar range isn't too far fetched.  I never said I believed that DR would get that type of money so I don't know why people are making it seem like I believed that by posting it.  If Nebraska had better wrs and Dana to start the season off our record would have been way better at the end.
agree

Highest NIL is $5m, due to his dad.

Heisman trophy winner is $3m.

Alabama's qb is $2m & they are having NIL issues.

You have to manage the money to have a team.  Denver is a big corporate city, lots of money.  Oregon has Nike in its back yard.  Lots of univ. don't have this type of funding.

these rumors are started by agents to boost their own clients value as they take a large slice.
Jay Norvell had a really interesting interview soundbite about the current NIL/agent situation (IDK if it was a recent quote or not, but it seemed recent).

This might already be well known, but I didn't know the extent of what has happening. He said these "agents" are running rampant right now, contacting schools without permission from players, asking "hey, if I could get you this kid, how much would you pay" and then they cold-contact these recruits with different NIL offers from a collection of schools. Some players take the bait, these agents take their cuts, and then they move on. It's all just a sales job at this point and its the schools and players that are ultimately paying the price... literally.

Personally I think it's ridiculous people are propagating NIL rumors like they are but it's also completely expected. Until the NCAA or some governing body gets control of this situation things are going to continue to just spiral wildly.

Why is it so hard to just get rid of these “foundations” like 1890?

Sure, let kids hire agents and make money by doing commercials or social media, whatever.  But just flat out giving them money for playing football shouldn’t be allowed.  Give the kids the right to “make” their own money.

But isn’t the fact they play football how the University has all the money in the first place?

Whats stupid is that the program needs to beg fans for more money for it.

This is like the Yankees having a go fund me in the off season to pay players.

You're spreading the rumors by continually posting them

And I do think you believe a lot of them based on the amount of garbage you've posted
This is a message board where we all go to discuss.  I post anything Husker related good or bad to have a discussion or to get people's thoughts and no I don't believe everything I post regardless if you think I do.  Not once did I say that DR was going to make 12 million or that he demanded that but what I did say is I could see him bagging 3-4 million from a school desperate enough to win but that doesn't necessarily mean he is transferring out or is.  Its just a possibility that's all no need to have an attitude either.  Can't we all get along bc we all root for the same team here and yes our opinions and thoughts may be different but we all want Nebraska to succeed.

Also have to take into account the television networks and conferences even though yes the universities get a sizeable cut of the revenue from all the deals.

Then let universities pay them.  Asking fans to take care of the “payroll” via “charitable “ donations is asanine.
IDK the specifics of the financial situations but it seems that these NIL programs wouldn't last long without fan/donor donations as the universities probably can't afford to pay those "salaries" all by themselves.

That said, the situation would be far more palatable if it was being operated like professional sports league, which is what they should've been doing from the beginning. There needs to be some kind of collective bargaining framework, maybe a tiered salary cap situation where there would be a maximum amount of money you can distribute across the entire roster, retention incentives and transfer penalties, and auditing/public reporting.

These kids want to be paid and treated like professional athletes without really being beholden to any of the limitations of a professional, like they are in the NFL.

We all agree it's stupid and embarrassing, but since there is currently no framework in place, at the present moment it's either play the game or be a really bad football team, and we all want to be a good football team.

I get that.  But it’s all just gross, and a horrible look, imo, to ask the guests to bring their own food to a dinner party you invited them to.

Im not just bitter about 1890, I’m also disgusted by every other uber-rich program begging for money.

The whole idea the fans need to pony up to help make us good is pathetic. That’s the system we have and I’m glad there are fans who do. I’m not.

The program is flooded with money already from us. Every month, when I pay my tv bill, I’m contributing. Every time I go to a game I’m contributing. Every time I buy a husker shirt I’m contributing.

But, we are expected to donate even more so an 18-20 year old kid can make way more than me to play a game.

Players want this to be a professional league. Well, this isn’t how professional leagues work.
