Nebraska Wrestling

Interesting to see how such a great year affects how much revenue sharing dollars are directed to the wrestling program.
Has there been any firm announcements of how revenue sharing will be split out? I've seen many schools are hinting at $14.5 million for football and split the remaining ~$6 million among their men's and women's basketball teams.

I would prefer that we split some money out to the Olympic sports and see the whole athletic program improve. I'm not sure throwing more millions at Nebraska basketball makes a significant difference at this point in time. But a full scholarship + $25-50k might result in a sprinter, wrestler, softball player, etc. giving us a stronger look. Maybe we lock in the next Dajaz DeFrand, Jordy Bahl, or an Isaac Trumble directly out of high school if they see the investment that the athletic program is making towards several sports, not just the current profit makers.

No official word yet.

But the guesses I've seen are in the range of:

  • Football: $14-15M
  • Men's basketball: $3.0-3.5M
  • Volleyball & Women's Basketball: $1.5-2.0M combined
  • Everything else: ~$1M

They need to give more to the wrestling team. They are clearly better than the men's basketball team. :)

I think it sucks in this world that the Olympic sports will die a slow death in D-1 schools.  We are selling our souls to the Football and Basketball gods.

The best thing Husker Wrestling could do is find a sugar daddy and establish an endowment for the program.  I have seen that Kent State and Akron track are starting Endowments to save their teams.  It is the only way to survive long-term.

Is Nebraska struggling with NIL? I would have thought with the momentum they had they could have filled their needs (149 and HWT) I have seen one confirmed visitor who committed to UNI. I don’t want to be the team to the East but I expected them to make a couple moves. I love Manning and his thought process of building a team instead of paying for one is admirable… but keeping it “old school” will get you passed up by everyone.. Iowa Ohio State Penn State Michigan Oklahoma State etc are going to pass Nebraska by if they don’t spend $$.
