New DC

We played a crap ton of an even front over the last half of the season.

That is what Rhule is describing when he says "multiple 3-3-5".  White's D evolved quite a bit in 2 seasons & they did play a lot more static 4-2-5.  The Jack really became a DE, in part because Sherman was a liability in space, in larger part out of a desire to attempt to control the LOS better vs specific opponents.

All our LB were not good in space.

Bingo !  You do not begin hiring position coaches without the DC in place......which he is.  Whether I agree or not (they didn't ask me), Butler is already putting together his staff
Matt Rhule said in his presser that we would have a great DC.  Butler from his time as a DC at Penn State wasn't great.  Not saying he can't be but time will tell if he gets that opportunity.  Also if it is Butler why not come out and say it?  Since MR hasn't announced it I believe it's not him(Butler).

You may be right !!  And I truly hope that is the case, but I just feel as if MR brought him here to be the next DC (has actually done more than "hint" at this during early pressers regarding JB).  MR is a loyal guy and I do not see him backing out on his perceived initial plan.   With that said, maybe JB leaves to jump back to the NFL if something comes open and then MR has his short list of guys.

The funniest thing would be hiring Zach Arnett from the Rocky Long tree to run a 3-3-5.

Well, Arnett does seem to be getting some play, here. Coached alongside White at San Diego State. Maybe Rhule isn't as eager to change systems as some have suggested?

And there's a rumor floating around that Rhule has spoken with Chris Kiffin, Lane's younger brother. Not real clear on what sort of position he'd be considered for - his resume is a bit thin for DC, but could be a position coach. He's currently an analyst on Lane's staff.
