New DC

I'd take Leonhard, and as an added bonus, Badgers fans would be s#!tting themselves. There's people over there who want to fire Fickell and make Leonhard HC (like they wanted two years ago).
I'm all in on this.  The guy knows the Big 10 and what it takes to win.  He had great defenses that worked in our conference and he always seemed to have the right players who made an impact.

Not sure why someone gave you a smiley face on your post but that was a good article.   Of the names listed I would go wt Leonhard or the Ga

DC Schumann.  Both would give instant credibility to the program and could put together a good staff.  At this point, I would not promote from within.  We need a proven DC at this spot. We don't need someone with a learning curve - both in learning the job and learning about the Big 10.  The latter reason is why I prefer Leonhard.   The article listed Walters but he has had a lifetime of distain towards NU due to his Colorado history.  It would be like asking me to support OU  :ou1:  Texas  :hookerhorns  or Colorado :bluffs

I agree we want someone from the outside who has proven DC experience. This is not a time for on the job training!

I like Leonhard all the reasons stated, also I think our current players and recruits fit his scheme better than if we make a wholesale switch of scheme/philosophy

I like Leonhard and I think that he really relates to the players well since he was an undersized safety who had a lot of success at the position. He was a good coordinator during his time at Wisconsin before they decided to go all half-cocked and fire Chryst.

However, and I get this is just message board flatulence, but I would put a poison pill in his contract that he cannot go straight from NU to Wisconsin in any capacity (lateral move or to be their HC). He would yank a ton of transfers and likely recruits too if that were to be allowed to happen.

GO BIG RED!!!!

I would think he would have some motivation to stick it to Wiscy as he was overlooked at HC.   Of course, that isn't to dissimilar to Bo's stint with Nebraska.  He was originally overlooked by Peterson when Frank was fired.  Like Leonhard, Bo was a fan favorite to be hired as HC since he did such a good job wt the D under Frank.  Bo then came back into consideration after BC proved to be a failure.

I guess the moral of the story is to not burn any bridges.   Bo was able to enhance his resume by the performance of his Ds at OU and LSU.

I don't know if it's the base alignment he cares about so much as the philosophy it's implemented with.

Kind of interesting, feels like Rhule initially went with the NFL style offense and a college style defense. Now feels like we're pivoting on both fronts - embrace the college offense, but run a more NFL style defense.
