Maybe we are looking around and not handing the keys off to an in house coach. Was hopeful we might here an announcement for new DC today before tomorrow’s signing day, but maybe I’m wishful thinking…
That's what l'm thinking as well. If Nebraska wanted to hand off the defensive coordinator to JB then I think Matt Rhule would have acted fast and named him the replacement asap.Maybe we are looking around and not handing the keys off to an in house coach.
How? He was with the Bills and supposedly came here because he didn't see a path to DC staying there. So, he comes here, has a not-so-good showing with his position group....and he's going to then jump to an NFL DC gig? Not seeing it.Yeah, Butler seems less likely by the hour. Though he might still be a candidate or backup plan. But I'd say there's a good chance that Butler is trying to land an NFL DC position, too.

There are quite a few guys that I wouldn’t mind. Leonhard and Schumann for sure. Didn’t realize how young Shumann is. He’s 34. Muschamp would be good also as a known name with a track record. DJ Durkin would be a surprise as well. Should be interesting to see. Would like to see a name as quickly as possible with the recruiting cycle…but I wonder if he’s targeting guys heading to the post season, then it could be a while.https://www.si.com/college/nebraska/football/where-does-matt-rhule-turn-for-huskers-next-defensive-coordinator-tony-white-ryan-walters-jim-leonhard A whole a lot of names thrown out there.
I agree…if it was Butler it would have been announced by now!The longer this goes I would also say it is not Butler. If White had hit it out of the park and was going into the sunset as a head coach then that would have been ideal for Butler to pick up the continuity. But we were a .500 team and the defense had some inexcusable games.
We just upgraded the offense considerably over the last 24 hours. I think Rhule knows he must do the same with the defense and special teams.
Mushchamp I believe is a analyst rn and could take the job if called upon. There are quite a few guys that I wouldn’t mind. Leonhard and Schumann for sure. Didn’t realize how young Shumann is. Not saying he is, but he has 30 yrs of experience & he was the DC at Penn St. In his defense, he is a 4-3 guy not a 3-3-5. He also had to use what's here & we lost a lot from the previous year. Why? He's been terrible this year. Why does everyone think he's DC material? What am I missing?
