New DC

Nobody is questioning that he WANTS to be a DC.  We are questioning, what has any team seen that makes them want him as their DC?

Oh, I dunno, a decade of having coached a highly regarded secondary in the NFL, maybe? :dunno

You people are putting WAY too much emphasis on a single year of his resume and thinking that's all that matters here.

Then why hasn't someone already offered him a DC job...even before he came here and had a bad year?

Oh good god, do you need me to go interview every NFL GM and CFB HC and ask them why they haven't hired Butler before you're satisfied with my answer or what? He was up for one last year and ended up not getting it. That doesn't mean he's never going to be under consideration by anyone ever again. Do you suppose maybe this year he might be considered by a team that didn't have a DC opening last year?

Not saying he is, but he has 30 yrs of experience & he was the DC at Penn St.  In his defense, he is a 4-3 guy not a 3-3-5.  He also had to use what's here & we lost a lot from the previous year.

Penn St def was not good, but they were under probation.
Not directing this at you SouthLincoln, but I am sooooo tired of excuse, after excuse, after excuse for pretty much everything. Can we just get a guy who doesn’t need excuses?

As one of the aforementioned ‘You People,’ I definitely don’t want that dude handling the defense. He had a crack at being a DC one year at Penn State and hasn’t sniffed a DC job since. The secondary was pretty terrible this year. As seen with Rhule and many other coaches, the NFL is a different beast than college.
Swing for the fences with this hire.

White leaving is probably so new that he hasn’t had time, but the longer we go without having an interim defensive coordinator named for the bowl game, I wonder if Rhule does have someone in mind for this hire before the bowl season ends.

As mentioned a few times, don't be surprised if Butler is named at least interim DC for the bowl.  The team has to play the defense already installed.  Then Rhule will remove the interim tag shortly before the bowl or shortly thereafter.

That’s the speculation on this board, sure. I know it’s been a busy day for them with signing day, but why wait?
