Exactly the path we mentioned! He will be the next DC… Rhule can tell us it is open, but JB will get hired. That is why he decided to come take the DB gig. Anyone that thinks he came here, straight from the NFL to coach our DB only , is fooling themselves. He could have coached DB anywhere he chose to… He came here with a job waiting for him
Matt Rhule says that he has had multiple coaches reach out to him about the DC opening but his main focus rn is cutting the roster down and that he hates it.
Cutting the roster greatly affects the players, so giving them the news soon is very important to any coach that cares about them at all. What is the deadline for cutting down the roster? And with all the portal departures how much more do we have to go? If time is not an issue, I would think the new DC would want to assist with determining the defensive roster.
I agree. Why say a bunch of sitting P5 coordinators are calling. That would be a bad look to give it to Butler with 1 year of DC experience a decade ago and turning down interest from current DCsRhule said in the press conference that Butler would get a look, but that he is definitely looking around. Didn't sound like it was going to be Butler to me.
He came here in July because he was sitting on his couch and we needed a DB coach.Exactly the path we mentioned! He will be the next DC… Rhule can tell us it is open, but JB will get hired. He was sitting, yes, by choice. Not actively pursuing a job. He was waiting for a DC job to open up. Rhule is telling the public how much big time DC are contacting him, so it will make JB look as if he was the right man for the job over all of these others. The only way he does not end up as our DC, is if Rhule wants to completely cut bait with him. It will come into focus, if we start hiring defensive position coaches. before he announces a DC. If we name a DL Coach prior to him announcing the DC, that would be a huge sign to say our future DC is already in place..He came here in July because he was sitting on his couch and we needed a DB coach.
If Cooper keeps it in his pants none of us have ever heard of John Butler.
Rhule can say whatever he wants, but his buddy pick for coordinator didn't pan out before, and it doesn't look like it will pan out this time either.
Get Wisconsin's former DC, get the best DC we can get, and quit allowing the coach to hire buddies that frankly haven't done a good job so far. Or ever.
Rhule clearly has a problem letting people go. He’d probably rather promote someone than tell them no. Rhule needs 9 wins by year 4 or he his going back to Temple. Probably should take some time on this hire.Butler is not a "buddy pick" though.
Why do we need to meltdown over an assistant coaching hire? Give the guy a year as a DC and see how it goes. But in my heart, I think that the more we try to convince ourselves that it is not going to be JB, the bigger the meltdown, when it becomes official
