Yeah, that was a strange comment given that Butler was only here for one of those two years, and he coached the weakest part of our defense. Whether or not that was Butler's fault is debatable (we clearly had personnel issues with our secondary), but that phrasing doesn't really make sense.
Fwiw sometimes that stuff isn’t for us fans but for agents, other coaches, etc. It’s like when Moos said he had a bunch of interest when we all knew he had to hire Frost or leave town. But you give Frost’s agent all the leverage and more if you come out and say that lol. Making the hiring process sound competitive and like Butler rose above the other candidates helps bring us better position coaching candidates, analysts, that kind of thing. But I do understand your point.
