New Defensive Coordinator - TONY WHITE

What is the connection between White and Rhule? Have the worked together in the past. Rhule has said he only wants to work with guys he knows and trusts.
Rhule on the 2001 UCLA staff while White was a senior in college

The improvement he made to their D was pretty immense statistically. He is also a supposedly good recruiter at only 43. I’m talking myself into this.

Not sure why anyone would have to talk themselves into this. He’s a legit young DC who had multiple offers from other schools and chose us.

Things like this don’t usually go in our favor.

They have one stand up LB on the line most times. Looks like a 4-2-5 most times, sometimes a true 3-3-5...in the B10 I guess we will see.

2021: #18 total defense, #69 scoring defense nationally
2022: #29 total defense, #35 scoring defense.

Seems decent.

Damn. I have met this guy multiple times when he was coming up. He is legit and very well respected in the coaching circle. Also, a huge reason why Syracuse has been good as of late.

I very much doubt we will be running a 3-3-5 in the big ten

That's more or less what we did quite a bit under Chinander and then by extension some with Busch, also.

The question of whether there are 3 or 4 guys on the line kind of ebbs & flows. In the later Chinander years he'd usually have either Tannor or Nelson on the line for a four man front.

But anyway, we played a lot of Nickel (5 guys in the backfield).

I am not too freaked out about a 3-3-5.  You just use a lot hybrid people.   Also you can attack from all over.  We use it at the HS level against run heavy teams as well.
