New Thread Arguments

I think we should stay out of the arguments about posting and new threads. I made one post and had another composed before deleting both. It just seems like it's turning into Mods vs. Members which isn't a good look, no matter how much sense we make. I was mainly trying to defend saunders because I think he's done a great job with those threads but people just want to complain. Most are still mad about the bannings and just see this as an excuse to let out frustration. We aren't going to change their minds and if they feel like all the Mods are after them they'll just get mad and possibly leave.

Just let them vent, they'll settle down and we'll all be one big happy family when the season gets here.

You're right, Mav. Good points.

The complaining seems to be limited to the usual, disaffected suspects. But a small crowd of good buds isn't everyone on Huskerboard. And I'm more than happy to move past the days where HB was dominated by vocal, tight-knit cliques bandied up and ran off posters who didn't fit into their culture. It feels much more like a Huskerboard for everyone these days.

I think both you and saunders should get kudos. You both have a great handle on this.

Yeah, I was just joking around with all my posts in that line of discussion. I think that was fairly clear. As for the "arguments", I think these are mostly tongue-in-cheek off season arguments, aren't they?

I'm still trying to get a new feel for goofiness / decorum in posting as a mod. Since about 75% of what I posted as a member was done in goofy humor. (But hey, I racked up 18k of posts with only a handful of arguments and virtually no ill will from or towards anyone. lol)

Exactly. While I can't claim to read every post in every thread in every forum every day, my take is that it's the friends of the banned that are complaining. I certainly don't see it in the Recruiting forum, or even in Husker Football. What we've got is a VERY small minority that is going to attack anything we do. To hell with 'em.

That's a good question. The way I see it, you guys were brought here because we saw how you handled yourself regularly on the forums, and liked it.

When I was brought on, I was skeptical about assuming any mod duties. I saw myself as a member, mostly, so nothing had changed (or maybe that was an excuse for laziness, ha!) Then I felt that maybe it was just an honor. A moderator is in a leadership role. They've been deemed to be guys that exemplify our community standards in their presence on the board (and on top of that, are willing to embrace that role). And so, basically, you guys are aces, or you wouldn't be here.

// As long as it fits in with Mav's point, too, which is an important one. It's a very bad look when a guy with the "Mod" tag gets into it with a member. I know I did my share of this, especially early on, and it's something I've been actively trying to ease back, with varying degrees of success. Gotta stay out of the fray.

I think that our our responses were fair and reasonable. But I felt there was hostility starting to work back towards us. And it was mostly Mods on one side and 2-3 guys (plus the banned and self-imposed vacationers +1ing along the way) looking to gripe on the other. I just don't see a positive outcome so I think it's best to not give them anything to work off of.

...and this is exactly why if the new guys have a question look no further than Ar husker, Mav, zoogs. .........

It will simply be a never ending volley back and forth.

If you want to respond in that thread, maybe something like, "Can you tell us how we can create more in depth discussion?" Place it back on them.

On the flip side I can see you are proud of HB and want to defend it because we know who that are and what their agenda is...take the high road.
