Niles Paul

Pedro Guerrero

Team HuskerBoard
The 1697 All Purpose yards that Niles Paul put up this year was good enough for 8th on the All Time Single Season list at the University of Nebraska. The 7 seasons that are higher then his belong to some guys named Rozier(2), Rodgers(2), Phillips(1), Green(1) and another underappreciated Husker named Lucky(1). What makes his total even more impressive is that he did it on only 97 attempts, which leads to the next stat. His yards Per Attempt of 17.49 would have broken Johnny Rodgers single season record of 15.02 but since he only had 97 touches it doesn’t qualify because the minimum is 100. Needless to say if he would have gotten the 3 extra touches he would own that record as well.

Right now he sits at 2968 yards for his career. With 274 yards he will break into the Top 10 for a career. With 591 he will crack the Top 5 and if he gets 1312 he will end his career #3 behind only Rozier and Rodgers. He will have done this in basically 3 years since he only totaled 14 yards on 2 touches in 7 games his Freshman year. His Career yards per attempt average of 17.25 would be the record but he doesn’t meet the minimum of 200 attempts. Rodgers holds that record at 13.76 per attempt.

Top 10 Seasons, All-Purpose Yards

1. Mike Rozier, IB, 1983 (296 att) 2486 yards

2. Johnny Rodgers, WB, 1972 (160 att) 2011 yards

3. Johnny Rodgers, WB, 1971 (132 att) 1983 yards

4. Ahman Green, IB, 1997 (278 att) 1982 yards

5. Lawrence Phillips, IB, 1994 (308 att) 1894 yards

6. Mike Rozier, IB, 1982 (252 att) 1790 yards

7. Marlon Lucky, IB, 2007 (282 att) 1743 yards

8. Niles Paul, WR, 2009 (97 att) 1697 yards

FWIW: The 74 yard TD reception last night set the NU bowl game record. His 4 – 100 yard receiving games is tied for the season record with Rodgers, Swift, and Purify

I'm excited about what he can be next year. He has come along nicely.

Those 2 giant boo-boos against TT and Iowa State still are hard to wash out of memory but he stepped up and finished the season nicely.

Great info!!! He is going to be a valuable piece to our team next year. He should be able to set himself as a return specialist in the NFL with that type of production.

Those were hard to take but I am glad his was playing for us and making all those plays for NU last night.

He was an impact player and could've been MVP.

I would like to see a story with him and Ahman Green next year. Not sure how close they are but that would be cool.

Sorry, just read he was co MVP with O Hanlon.

Paul still seems to lack the game awareness he needs to be a true quality receiver. He basically gave up a first down on a critical drive on 3rd down, and was damn lucky to make up the yards again.

How many boneheaded moments can a guy get? It's getting to be a trend.

He was trying to make a play..how can you get mad at a player for trying to make a play..its not like he ran backwards..all he did was side step a defender...give the guy a break...he was trying to make a play for his team....

Not too mad, but if it had turned out the other way I'd be really exasperated. He had the first down but weaved out of it...not the safest choice. I guess he wasn't sure if he had it or not but running that far backwards is just dangerous.

I see what your saying..i just think Niles is one of those players that tries to break it for 6 every time...so sometimes their decision making isnt always the best, but their athletic ability can cover for it
