Lmao he was benched. Every time are qbs play bad we bench them,but when are wide outs fumble (niles paul ) they leave him in seems like they do it just so he can do it again. I dont understand that at all Bo needs to start acting like a coach and do his job. Iam not saying all players dont have bad games but niles is the only 1 that I can think of that has more bad games then any one else

You hit it on the head! I couldn't wait for Nunn to graduate and I'm really not trying to be a jerk, but I feel the same way about Niles. I know he's probably tried his best and obviously he's probably not proud of the mistakes he's made, but sometimes it just doesn't work out and it appears that as long as he has eligibility he's going to be on the field. I guess at this point we can be glad he didn't redshirt,

In defense of Paul, Tim Marlowe gave him the O.K. to run the ball out of the end zone, which is what usually happens kick-offs. One return man takes it, the other comes over and blocks for him. If it's in the end zone, they look at each and decide whether to take it out. Paul was about to go down on one leg, Marlowe gave him the O.K.

The second return man is supposed to decide whether it's worth to bring the ball out, so imho Marlowe made a bit of a bonehead play himself.

Doesn't really excuse the fumble by any means, because you still have to hold onto the ball. But the fact that he messed up and took it out of the end zone can be laid onto Marlowe as well.

This is partially true. But, the ultimate decision is on the return man's shoulders.

Has anyone heard from Paul or Marlowe about what Marlowe told him? Did he truly tell him to take it out or was that guesswork? Marlowe had his back to the kick coverage and made a gesture (and likely said something), but you certainly can't tell what he said, and his gestures weren't obviously "stay" or "go."

Ultimately, yes. However, Marlowe's job is to run over and help Paul make the decision whether to return it based on what he sees in the blocking up front. It's advice that Marlowe should not have given. Everybody is susceptible to following bad advice.

I'm 99.9% sure that Marlowe stuck his arm out with one finger up in the air and made a circle motion, similar to the motion you'd make to someone if you were trying to tell them to hurry up. I see the players do this all the time, and I first started noticing it last year in the Oklahoma game. During a kick off we received in the South end zone, I saw Paul give the same gesture to the return man and the return man brought it out of the end zone.

I don't get why being a Husker fan automatically means you can not say a player is obviously not good enough to play. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. For every good play Niles has, he has a bone head play that almost or does cost us the game. Time for a change at kick off return. I'll take someone who NEVER houses a kick off, but NEVER fumbles the damn thing either. How many times has he fumbled on a kick off this year? At least 3 that I can recall and that isn't including the Punt Returns, of which he has already lost his spot. It is common sense to take a knee 6 yds deep in the end zone, but he's arrogant and tries to make a play. Even if he didn't fumble the damn ball, we would have started the drive at the 13 yd line. STUPID STUPID STUPID.

So before you "Holier than Thou" Husker fans start trashing me, how many more fumbles will he have to have and mistakes he'll have to make before you come down from that Ivory Tower?

The juice just isn't worth the squeeze. Thank you, Niles Paul, for pouring your heart and soul into the Husker program. We know that you mean well, but enjoy your free education and the view of the football game from the sidelines. Hopefully you have good grades, because there is no way you will be playing football on Sundays.

That is fine. I have no problem calling out someone who personally attacks Paul or any other player. But we should be able to say that his play isn't cutting it and it's time for the coaches to find someone on campus that can catch and not fumble once a game. One good thing Callahan did was to not redshirt him, so that way the NCAA will do what the NU coaches will not do, remove him from the field. I got a sneaky suspicion he has naked pictures of somebody in his freezer.

I'm confused then because you were preemptively very defensive. I guess I haven't seen anywhere where people have said you can't criticize a players play.

I've seen enough threads about Niles to know what will be posted. Some Husker fans think you can't criticize ANY player for ANYTHING. These same fans generally refer to the players as "kids" - another pet peeve of mine. They are young men, not kids.

I refer to all 19-20 year olds as kids because the way our society works childhood is a lot longer than it used to be. Playing football doesn't make you a man. Real life makes you a man/woman. I've seen the same threads as you and I guess I'm not seeing it. People have free reign to criticize play here as long as I've been here. That's the way it should be and the way it is.

If you can sign up and fight for your country, you are no longer considered a child. That means you are a man. Now, whether they ACT like men is a completely different topic all together. I will be turning 30 this month, so it wasn't so long ago that I was 19-20 yrs old and I would have smacked you in the lip for calling me a child. Again, if I was acting like an adult at that time is a completely different story...

it's a game - it's supposed to be fun. asu's KR just brought one out from the same spot and took it to the house. and guess what - asu's gonna lose. lighten up guys... niles has been a good player for us. if you don't like something he does, just think about the mizery game last year. i guarantee you will miss him when he's gone. what better way to win the game today than to rip their hearts out in OT. another silver lining: we never have to play in the Jack Trice Shythole again!!!!!

The whole point of this thread is to point out Niles 1 or 2 games are overshadowed by all the stupid a$$ mistakes that he keeps repeating. He is a senior for crying out loud. Quit making freshman mistakes. You Paul apologists are all the same, you point out the two good games he's had in his ENTIRE CAREER to say that makes up for the other 75% of the games he is either invisible or does something so dumb, like fumble a 75 yd TD when no one touches him.
