I don't get why being a Husker fan automatically means you can not say a player is obviously not good enough to play. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. For every good play Niles has, he has a bone head play that almost or does cost us the game. Time for a change at kick off return. I'll take someone who NEVER houses a kick off, but NEVER fumbles the damn thing either. How many times has he fumbled on a kick off this year? At least 3 that I can recall and that isn't including the Punt Returns, of which he has already lost his spot. It is common sense to take a knee 6 yds deep in the end zone, but he's arrogant and tries to make a play. Even if he didn't fumble the damn ball, we would have started the drive at the 13 yd line. STUPID STUPID STUPID.

So before you "Holier than Thou" Husker fans start trashing me, how many more fumbles will he have to have and mistakes he'll have to make before you come down from that Ivory Tower?

The juice just isn't worth the squeeze. Thank you, Niles Paul, for pouring your heart and soul into the Husker program. We know that you mean well, but enjoy your free education and the view of the football game from the sidelines. Hopefully you have good grades, because there is no way you will be playing football on Sundays.

You know what's funny, if ANY other receiver on our team made the constant bonehead mistakes that Niles makes, they would never see the color of the grass they would be so far from the field. But yet our WR 'coach' holds Niles to a different standard than everyone else. Niles can consistently makes these mistakes over, and over, and over, but yet is never held accountable. The next play, he is back on the field as if nothing happened.

It's great Niles has flashes of talent. But so do numerous others on this team, but the difference is the coaches will not hesitate to remove any other player when they make boneheaded plays. Even Lavonte David, being BY FAR our best LB this year, was removed from the Texas game for his stupid mistakes. That is some sort of accountability.

Last year, the coaches removed Niles from the ISU game after his mistakes, and what happened? Niles rebounded and had an amazing part of last season. When a player plays and knows his position is not guaranteed, they play with a different passion, and not a lackadaisical attitude that we CONSTANTLY see from Niles.

At this point, I blame Gilmore for not putting Niles' arse on the bench just like he would anyone else, just as much as I blame Niles for simply being carefree in his play.

In defense of Paul, Tim Marlowe gave him the O.K. to run the ball out of the end zone, which is what usually happens kick-offs. One return man takes it, the other comes over and blocks for him. If it's in the end zone, they look at each and decide whether to take it out. Paul was about to go down on one leg, Marlowe gave him the O.K.

The second return man is supposed to decide whether it's worth to bring the ball out, so imho Marlowe made a bit of a bonehead play himself.

Doesn't really excuse the fumble by any means, because you still have to hold onto the ball. But the fact that he messed up and took it out of the end zone can be laid onto Marlowe as well.

I think you're confusing people not being OK with making personal attacks/insults on players with living in an ivory tower where we can't criticize their play (see the Niles Paul is a loser thread or talking sh#t to him at Wendy's/after the game). If me having a problem with people not acting like adults when it comes to criticizing play means I live in an Ivory Tower, then I'm quite comfortable in mine and I think I'll stay there, thank you.

Well I'm not sure too many are getting after anyone for criticizing players...it's when people say stupid stuff like "you piece of s###" that we get sick of...

He absolutely needs to be sat. There's no reason a kid who's been playing as long as him should make the mistakes he regularly makes.

No doubt ^^. The fumble is pretty indefensible and it's pretty clear that Niles is just not consistent in doing what he needs to do. There's something off in the mental part of his game. I would not fault the coaches for giving a younger guy a chance to step up and prove himself at this point.

Niles has been killing it on the outside blocks that have really sparked our running game, so I'm not sure if there's anyone better at this point when you consider that we are a run first team.

My guess is that the coaches will still stick with him but we'll see.

I was suprised that he took that kickoff out of the endzone. You sit on that and let it come out to the 20, especially with the way ISU was playing inspired. Our offense was struggling and we needed all the help we could get with yards. INSANE!!!

i think the Niles horse has been beaten before....enough, it is wasted breath, he will soon be gone and no, i don't see him as a Sunday phenom.
