Is Iowa a Rivalry for Nebraska?

Don’t really want Iowa getting a dude at QB.
He can’t end up there!!! He is literally my favorite non Husker college football player. I have watched many Jacks games over his career. Before DR, I was clamoring for N to make a charge for him last year! Fantastic QB and will make an NFL roster. Better than any QB that Iowa or N has had in a decade.

I'm sorry for your possible loss.  However, I think you should only compare his freshmen year back in 2020 to DR's freshmen season.  Dang,... 2020... 2AM was a JR at NU.  Seems so long ago lol

Serious question… I am always up for a good natured debate, not a sarcastic pi$$ing match that constantly happens on this board….. what is your point about comparing freshmen seasons… you probably are right, but I can’t see it

Gronowski played a shortened 9 game season in the Spring of 21 and only played qtr in the 9th (NC game… blew ACL)… in 9 games in the Spring he went 15 td - 3 int with a 151 rating… adding 577 yds rushing for another 7 td… compared to DR who had 13 TD -11 int with a 129 rating and had -65 yds rushing I believe… yes DR had about 1200 more yards but played 4.75 more games….

after that Gronowski went for 2967yds, 3058 yds and 2721 yds and 2 NC and Walter Payton FCS player of the year….

One can say he played in FCS competition compared to Big 10 (yes, I get that), but SDSU and NDSU have more QB in the NFL than Iowa and Nebraska, so talent is talent regardless… he will immediately give Iowa credibility when you add their running game,ST, and defense.

again, I am just asking, not being an antagonist

Yeah me too I am not into back-n-forth unless it is good discussion.

I agree with you that Gronowski is a very very good QB.  And he may be better than what the Huskers have had in a decade.  So I agree with that too.

I simply and only suggested to compare their first year because the entire book has not been completed with DR.  He still has 2 years left and possibly 3 to become the best QB he can be, to show those results and his production.  Then a full comp can be had. And Grono could still prove to be the better QB or not.

Plus I don't think he played as a true freshmen.  Listening to Quinn Ewers last night talking about how "it felt like a shock" when asked what it was like going from HS to big time college football (Ohio State) his true freshmen season.  He had to learn everything they don't teach in HS.

I do not disagree with your overall point that Gronowski does improve Iowa immediately.

However, stats can be skewed when comparing QBs in two different levels. For instance, in SDSU's three losses this year, their offense averaged 16.7 points per game. In their 12 wins, they averaged 41.7 ppg. Their three losses however were by 24 to a bad Oklahoma State, and by 4 and 7 to NDSU. The one FBS team they played, they got taken to the woodshed despite being led by Gronowski in his fifth year. So while Gronowski is talented, any comparisons should be taken with a grain of salt. He will benefit greatly if Iowa's defense and special teams again play above average.

Lucky for him, Iowa's schedule is once again favorable starting with three non-conference games against the Cyclones, UMass and Albany. If he gets comfortable, his ceiling might be a Kurtis Rourke type of year where the team wins against average and bad teams but get exposed against above average/elite teams.

Gronowski to Iowa. I have said my piece, but this isn’t good for us!  Yes, I understand the Ok St reference but he was breaking in 3 new starters at WR and replacing 3 OL , 2 of which are in NFL… with onr if their top recruits switching to baseball during fall camp.  First game of season…. I think that be taken into account. He makes them markedly better immediately!! They become complete and dangerous

Iowa already beats us when they suck, so I don't really care. Maybe our players will play up to them now.

I am with you on your post. I am not saying that Gronowski is better than DR in 2-3 years.  I was saying until we signed DR, I was hoping for Gronowski.

Agreed.  I'm an SDSU grad from..... 1978.  Best QB that they have ever had IMHO.  I thought he and SDSU would break the back of the NDSU dominance in that division but it didn't happen.  But 2 NCs is pretty darn good.
