Nice post MWJ

I get the feel that most Husker fans are becoming more patient, cautious and slightly optimistic with the new staff. And we do feel more updated and embraced by them. At the same time it is good to talk about it, since it is almost impossible to just unplug everything until BYU

Not really. Maybe early struggles and with the game opener. But I think the offense has speed and good enough athletic ability to score points. By conference we should be experienced and ready to go. The key is if we do improve from week to week, instead of hitting an early season peak and declining or becoming inconsistent.

Since Bo Pelini was hired, I've heard he is a "defensive guru". Still haven't seen it.

Here's a link. So....that ^ comment there is basically the same as calling him a "master QB developer"? Hmmm...seems to me you may have embellished your side of the argument a bit to fit your objective.

I love how you claim Bo's time here irrelevant to the discussion since he no longer coaches here, yet you've been bashing Riley's time at Oregon St. for months now.

I provided a link specific to the quarterback development reputation of Riley. I'm very hopeful about that. In my opinion, the play of the QB, OL, and LB are where we need the most improvement. Oh, and Riley's background is currently more relevant than Pelni's because Riley is the current coach of the Nebraska Cornhusker football team. Pelini is not.

Meh I'm not worried. Rome wasn't built in a day and a football team can't be built in one month in the spring.

Riley's doing things the right way. Hey let's pick a selective group of plays that we can execute well, run them out of multiple formations, and build on that. That's called an identity, which this offense hasn't had in a long time.

 
I know in the past the complexity of our offense was a problem, however I think maybe it was how complex the offense was as much as it was our coaches inability to teach the offense. I'm hopeful that this won't be a problem with Riley and his staff

Progress? Like we are on the 4th coach in a decade, and a 3rd AD but we still have Harvey as chancellor and his circus show. All the fluff from AD on up, they better hope things work out or Husker Nation will question the higher up ability to get the job done hiring a good HC, not a splash hire but a solid HC. Maybe Riley and crew will prove me wrong the next 3 to 4 years. I cooled off some since the Hire of these coaches but I still reserve the right to wait at least two years and form my opinion of Riley but with those above him, fair game! I was never impressed with Harvey as chancellor, remember the Black Shirts tradition was lost under his watch! I feel that we lost so much in the last 20 years, beginning with not playing Oklahoma every year - Texa$$ rules.

Exactly! Harvey has a lot bigger fish to fry then the football teams head coach. Like making sure the university is providing quality education for the students! I understand that football is a big deal to the university but it nowhere near as important as providing a quality education for students. The football team has to be down the priority list a little ways, keep it in perspective!

I agree here but the football team is what puts the university in the national spotlight. One example is those commercials that the university runs during games to tout their academic side. If we had a nationally irrelevant team year in and year out, those commercials fall on deaf ears or don't exist at all.

So while Harvey should be focused on the university as a whole, Husker football is like 1a in his list of priorities. There is no denying that.
