I was wondering if what this guy does is alright with everybody. He has 55 total posts and 50 of them are starting threads that link to what appears to be his blog. Maybe I’m behind the times and the board is down with his blog but I just noticed a couple other posters questioning him about today so I figured I would do some asking around.

For what it’s worth the articles are decent and I like reading them. I just don’t think people should pimp themselves on here unless the “Higher-Ups” are ok with it.

If “they” are ok with it then consider me a retard for even asking. :nanalama

I don't recall him asking for a link approval, but I think we've always taken the position that since it doesn't have a forum or an interactive component such as a wiki that it doesn't really confilict with HuskerBoard. More like a newspaper opinion piece than a discussion forum.

Exactly, there is anything he is going to say that isn't in a newspaper article.

It seems pretty clear that he's either a blogger on Husker Locker or Sam McKewon, since those are the only things he links to. He provides no conversation, nothing but links to his articles.

I'm not trying to tell you guys how to run your site, but it seems to me that he's getting some pretty good free advertising from posting here. I would recommend speaking to him about his intentions and possibly his identity.

Or that Sam McKewon is a former blogger on Husker Locker. His articles are still appearing on Husker Locker. (link). I guess it's a nice gesture of him to link to the online newspaper version, rather to the competing interactive site. (Locker has a forum now. It's freakin' ugly though.)

I think it should be OK that he's posting these articles. I mean others have as well. He seems to be on mod approval for posting right now - how do you take him off that? I tried but couldn't find the option.

Why should we allow him to advertise his articles here for free? This isn't just a message board, it's a business.

I sent him a PM asking if he was Sam McKewon, and he didn't have the courtesy to reply. He did, however, try to post two more of his articles, so I know he saw it. Why wouldn't he own up to it? Why wouldn't he try to work with the management to work something out? I don't see any reason other than he wants free advertising.

I agree that his behavior is strange. But all he's doing is linking to State Paper articles. If the content of those threads themselves aren't objectionable, then does it come down to "the author cannot post his own articles, but everyone else can?" For instance, Steven Sipple wouldn't be able to come on here and link to his Journal Star articles. I'm not sure if I really get that.

This is exactly what he's doing. He's using our board as a marketing tool for his blog and his employer's site.

His email address is sam@ne.statepaper.com. Is that Sam McKewon's email?

Weird story....Sam and I were roommates in college for a couple years...

He contact me a few weeks ago about buying advertising for the paper, never did get back to me. I have his email address, let me know if I need to email him.

Absolutely email him. If you guys have a gentleman's agreement, I don't want to get in the way. I'm just applying the rules dispassionately here. I like the guy's articles, so tell him that if he's miffed at the jerk Mod who slowed down his posting power. I would just ask that he would respond to private messages if we contact him. We could have cleared this up weeks ago if he had just responded to my PM and said he knew you and you were cool with what he's doing.
