Open Letter to the team - MSU 2014 Edition

First and foremost congratulations on the 5-0 record. The vibe we as fans are getting from watching you play this year is something many of us have been waiting for for a long time. The sheer jaw dropping plays over the course of the last 6 seasons have been unreal. This season alone has had so many amazing moments its hard as a fan to not glow with pride at the thought of where we are headed this year.

But this week a hurdle has been placed on the track. You have the opportunity to do something special, something that hasnt happened in Lincoln for years. Six wins, zero losses. This team came close 4 years ago but they were dealt a crippling blow. That blow was overconfidence and lack of focus. You are all on the verge of something so special, learn from the mistakes that team made and leap over that hurdle and take the respect the rest of the nation refuses to give you. Even at 5-0 the experts wait with baited breath for you to stumble, and they expect that stumble to come in East Lansing.

You are the only undefeated team left in the Big Ten. This conference is essentially yours for the taking. The Spartans stand in your way. This team hung with #2 Oregon. They are no slouch but you already knew that. Last year they came into your house, YOUR HOUSE, and got a win over Nebraska for the first time in History. Time to repay the favor. Its up to each and every one of you to play your asses off and then some to prove last years outcome was a technicality, a fluke, a gift for all the times Nebraska will embarass them in the future.

You are the cream of the crop in this conference. You hold the best record. Its time to take your rightful spot officially at the top of those standings. MSU needs to feel defeated on Sunday, make that happen. Make the experts sorry they didnt notice you before. This is the first step of your legacy. Go to East Lansing and make Mark Dantonio cry. Make every poor sap that lines up against you wish he pledged Nebraska when they had the chance. Time to play like the world beaters you are. Make us the proudest fans in the world and absolutely destroy Michigan State. Go. Big. Red.

I disagree.
My initial thoughts to this post...

"Debbie downer"

"Disagree to which part? All of it?"

"I agree with your disagreement"

Initial thoughts to OP

"Oh great inflate their egos so they lay an egg"

Final answer:

We are the last unbeaten but haven't proven to be the cream of the conference yet.

We havent proven were as bad as they tell us we are. Were 5-0 and until we get decimated by a clearly superior opponent we are the best team in the league. That decimation never has to come.

The hurdle placed before you is opportunity. Every Husker squad in the last 14 years has caught their leg on that hurdle and has fallen flat on their faces. Why should anyone believe that you are any different? What's so special about you? You're 5-0? Woo. That means nothing. Michigan State doesn't care that you're 5-0. Nebraska fans don't care that you're 5-0. Nobody cares that you're 5-0. 5-0 means nothing. You haven't done anything to change your perception.

But you can. You have worked the entire off-season for moments like this. You have worked the entire season for moments like this. The blood. The sweat. The adversity. All of it is for moments like this. Would be a shame to waste it.

My only requests, play hard every play, play a clean game (penalty and turnovers), and don't get embarrassed.

Also winning by 20+ would be pretty sweet

Michigan State doesn't care that you're 5-0.

Very True

Nebraska fans don't care that you're 5-0. Nobody cares that you're 5-0.

I care, I care very much
I'm willing to bet you won't care very much that we were 5-0 if we lose Saturday.
If we lose Saturday we would be 5-1. I'd still be proud, especially if we can compete for 4 quarters and look good doing it. Disappointing yes but I'd still be proud.

Win or lose, Sparty fans are going to burn a couch or two. Lets make sure they are burning couches out of bitterness after a thumping 1995 style - remember when Saban called out his team for quitting.

"I'm here to tell ya a little story 'bout my 5-0
Just a-lettin' ya know, I'm in total control"

All this 5-0 talk reminds me of Vanilla Ice. I cant wait until we are 6-0 and we can move on to Sunrise Avenue
