Overtime: Overreactions/Fanaticisms/Exasperations

Well, last week, I thought the overreaction thread was useful to keep the board from filling with fiery, single post threads, and some members seemed to gravitate to using it. However, we are getting some negative feedback from one of our members this week.

JJHusker1BTW mods, the overreaction thread, and moving posts to it, is the stupidest idea ever. It stinks of censorship and puts the tailoring of the discussion in questionable hands. I did not have a post moved and do not necessarily agree with any that were moved. Maybe we could go burn some books later......

I assume it was planned as a preemptive strike against a possible board meltdown? Bad idea imo. Nobody cares enough anymore to have an actual meltdown. Try to keep up.

If you really want to help reduce the derp, put some minimum requirements on nooks creating topics. That seems to be the "junk" posts that would be good to limit based on the past few weeks anyway.

JJHusker1

*noobs* as in newbies..

This may be a result of misuse on my part, if there are threads members actually liked that I sent to the overreaction thread. At the same time, what JJHusker1 and others have suggested, to limit new members' posts or thread generating ability, seems more like censorship than allowing the posts to exist in a designed area on the board. My immediate thought would be to continue the overreaction thread but do not merge other threads into it. Rather, treat it as a post-game thread. We already have a game thread. Maybe this is the best evolution of this idea. I will think about it some more.

Here are the OP from the 7 threads I merged into the Overtime thread yesterday. Worth noting, the 7 threads were started by 7 different members, so I was not isolating or deliberately censoring any one member. To me, these all seem like loose thoughts and expressions of frustration rather than catalysis for discussion.

Purdue! Are you kidding me? Purdue!
In my mind, this loss to Purdue is 1000x worse than ANY OTHER LOSS I can think of.

Purdue was 1-6. We were down 42-16 and Purdue let up on defense.

I understand the implications of firing a coach year 1, but I can't think of what else to do. POB doesn't win this game for us. He doesn't, not behind that offensive line.
I'm pulling so hard for this squad. I'll always believe in scenarios where we can win until the final horn blows. I just want the best for this program. Nothing seems to be going our way... Damn, it's hard. Stay strong Husker Nation. GBR.
Honestly, I would gain so much more respect for the guy if he actually came out and confessed that he is way out of his league and simply retired and let someone else come who can actually coach these kids. I am sorry but we do have very good players but they are coached horribly. Riley and his staff are not able to get the best out of these players and it shows. We have great weapons on this team and under a capable coach they will thrive, but it does not help when you do not have the right coaches to utilize these weapons. It is obvious. It is not personal. I am not, and never were, a Bo supporter and I wanted change but this coaching staff was not the answer. NO ONE in the nation other than the arrogant Eichorst thought this was a good fit and now it shows. No more close games to blow smoke up our behinds. It is obvious that these coaches are incompetent at a very high level and will NEVER turn things around. Pull the plug because this one is already dead. We are officially the "Kansas" of the BIG 10. I can't believe that these coaches are actually cashing those big fat checks they receive from this state with a piss poor performance like this. Is anyone going to ask the tough questions or are people here going to find new bullsh#t to convince themselves that things are turning around. The only people I felt sorry for are the fans that traveled to the game to see Purdue (yes Purdue!) dominate us.
This really does suck, right?

Its been 6 hrs since the end of the game and Eichorst has not been fired yet. WTF is going on. This is unacceptable to wait this long. This should have been announced within an hour of the end of the game. We need to hold the administration accountable

During the post game presser, Riley said, "I think that's what they need the most right now, just some more coaching."

That's like saying, "I think that's what that alcoholic needs the most right now, just some more beer."

Please resign, Mr. Riley. The players do not need any more of your coaching. You've done enough damage.

I think it's fine. JJHusker1 has been sour on everything for awhile so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I haven't been keeping up on all the threads but I'd say use it like the Tangent thread. If there are several threads started about the same thing or just to complain, they can get merged into the Overreaction thread. Or if there's an off topic post in a thread it can get moved.

I don't think everything needs to go in there but it has its place.

Agreed, although I don't think limiting new threads by noob posters is a bad thing. Any way to put them on mod preview to maybe minimize carpet bombing of stupid?

Just wanted to say, you guys are doing great. This season has been a dumpster fire, but this board has not. I think with a good part of the drama gone (or suspended), we're a little back to the days where members (for however angry they get at us, each other, etc) are mostly self-policing.

I don't know if there is a way to limit new threads by new posters, but as a user I was never a fan of that. It never feels welcoming, although I'm sure people can adapt to it, too; it's not a terrible idea.

I guess if bad threads are popping up we can just junk them or lock them as needed - and warn/suspend/mod preview those members as needed. There are good new posters, too. A lot of people I imagine are just finding this board after a game and wanting to say something.

I agree with zoogs on threads by new posters.

We can stay on top of it. Guys that want to be dumb will be dumb and will find there way out one way or another. Guys that are good will hang around.

Just because someone is new to the board doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about or don't have things to contribute.
