P&R bullsh#t that clogs up the Dbag thread

Coach, I agree with much of what you're saying. In fact, I would argue the average citizen should probably be more in tune with their community than what's going on in a foreign country.

To me, and to clarify, this whole conversation is about being a well-informed electorate. I don't stay up-to-date with political information to win arguments online or on here. In fact, if I'm honest, I wouldn't know enough to argue well in the first place on several topics. That's why we elect people to have them do the jobs we can't i.e. negotiating trade deals or growing jobs locally.

In my opinion, being able to vote is one of the single greatest freedoms we have in this country. It's incredibly disappointing to me when people either fail to exercise that right in totality or don't take even a minuscule amount of time to know what they're doing before they cast that vote. People literally kill for the right to vote all over the world, and many Americans don't take that seriously.

Maybe that comment was unfair. But really, what good did knapp and myself bickering about the importance of Trumps innacurate comment do? He got to call me names, that was about it.

Again, the public should want to be informed. I'm still trying to convince my wife to this day to go register to vote but she has 0 interest in politics, she is starting to come aroubd though a bit. But things like the rally attendance are non-stories in my opinion. All it did was give the Left a reason to complain about a guy they were already complaining about. I say that not as a Conservative but as an observer( I'm a registered Independent). Meanwhile Trump was putting freezes on federal hiring, strong arming the pipeline and stopping trades. But here we were focused on his silly comments.
Millions of Americans are voicing their opinions on the hiring freeze and pipeline today, many in a constructive fashion. I don't think we should intentionally or unintentionally get bogged down in the notion that little squabbles here are somehow representative of the country.

I agree we shouldn't be talking about the rally, but based on trending Twitter and Facebook topics, people are very aware of what he's doing with DAPL right now.

I spend most of my free time doing stats for wrestling and writing up practice schedules, uploading film to hudl, staying on top of the things that help out the kids I am around every day. Along with teaching/coaching, meeting with my mentee through the teammates program. I also have to find time the 3 hours I am home before bed to spend with my pregnant wife.

It's NOT easy (as some claim) to stop doing all those things that HAVE to be done, just to sift through a bunch of crap to find our if an article I read is factual. Excuse me for putting that stuff over a dumb a$$ argument between right and left.

Cue the "You had time to type that out.....etc"
I completely get what you're saying. Yhe task of being informed of political topics can be exhausting and unrewarding. What's the payoff? Sounding smary when you get into a pissing match with someone on the internet.
The public should be made aware of current events and should want to be aware. But it's up to individuals to choose what topics to care about.

That said, I'm just a stupid sorry a$$ ignorant person, so what do I know.
I don't know how you went here, then went to saying that the payoff was an argument with knapp that did no good.

The payoff is to be an informed voter who doesn't spew falsehoods to other voters.

Shouldn't both parties also be held to the same standard? Trump lied, Hilary lied, Obama has lied, so did George W Bush......and so on.

We weren't debating on who to vote for though. I guess if our discussion made someone realize that Trump tends to say stupid sh#t thrn great, thought that was common knowledge though.

The election is over but we still need to stay informed and vigilante. There is another election in less than 2 years.

Yes, but there are big differences in the number of lies and what they lied about, and only one tried to convince everyone of the lie that the press is not to be trusted.

And Trump will still be saying stupid sh#t just has he always has, just as he always will. People got spoiled with Obama, if nothing else he was one eloquent motha. Before that....well not nearly as eloquent.

Side note, why do the Repubs keep trotting out walking talking memeachines?

I've said this before, but I think it bears repeating.

What Redux is describing is a legitimate media strategy by Trump. I watched him use it to bury bad news pieces throughout his campaign. He and his inner circle have a very defined habit of trying to bury bad, damaging news (what Redux bolded) with stupid, ridiculous news.

They're probably betting that people discount Trump saying ridiculous, easily disprovable lies and conspiracy theory stuff... because he's Trump. They're gambling media coverage of crackpot theories and whacky statements will hurt him less than coverage of his policies.

It's a brilliant move if it's indeed choreographed. But very dangerous for our chances of an informed electorate.
