Penalty Improvements

I didn't say good. I said acceptable. That's the way I took the comment in your post. Obviously, everyone shoots for zero.

And as far as getting fewer later in the year, last year's penalties in the first 6 games were 6.33. In the last 7 games, it was 5.42.

Bigger improvement this year compared to last.

Last year, we averaged 5.5 in the last 4 games. This year, in the last 4 games we have averaged 4.4. Now, we still have (hopefully) two games to go. We will see if that trend continues.

However, so far this year, we have seen improvement.

Penalties and penalty yards per game are an interesting statistic, but need to be lined up with penalties that cost the defense a stop on a scoring drive and penalties that cost the offense a first down, big play, or points.

They're likely going down just due to the team adjusting to the illegal formation calls the refs were cracking down on at the beginning of the year. I think in the BYU game they called each team several times for not having enough people on the line.
