Pinstripe Bowl/2024 What Did We Learn

My appendix has died so that Nebraska football could win this game. Watched the whole game at the hospital. Thank god we won!
A once in a lifetime appendectomy bartered for a Husker win over Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl….

My god, it’s sad how desperate we are….

Hopefully you recover quickly and save that spleen for a Natty!!!

All kidding aside, here’s to a quick recovery  :wasted

This idea has merit. We need to start an offseason thread to get people to volunteer body parts to the gods in return for Husker wins in ‘25. I am sure with how Husker fans win every fan competition, heck we just won that B1G blood drive competition!, I am sure we can find enough body parts to appease the gods and get to the playoffs!!!!

Learned:

Winning a close bowl game is better than not being in one.

7-6 is so much better than 6-7

Maybe we are building some resiliency - we didn't fall completely apart as BC started to get back into the game

We have some good young talent on D that showed their stuff during the game.

The team still needs to develop the killer instinct - this game never should have been this close at the end.  That is on the coaches.

Rhule or Foley - who made that call on the fake field goal - stupid stuff still happens.

Going to say it again.  Going to get laughing emojis again.

I don’t care for DRs on field behavior.  He acts like a D Bag.  I don’t know if he is or not, but he certainly plays the part well.

He slides late and starts talking.  He slides way too early (again) but still continues to jaw and mock.  As seconds ran out I told my family “Watch this, he’s going to run off by himself and put on a show”.  No way!   That’s exactly what he did.

As long as we win…whatever.  I just think he acts like a tool and it annoys me.

I think there's a fine line between confidence and arrogance and DR like to test those boundaries. It's not really my flavor either (I wasn't a big talker when I played sports) but I liked having guys like that on my team. All that really matters is you put your money where your mouth is more often than not. If you talk smack and then play bad... rough look.

As for the 'running off by himself and put on a show,' I think that's pretty trivial and nitpicky. The dude celebrates with, loves, and is loved by his teammates. He also feeds off the energy of hyping up the crowd. A lot of great players are like that. Again, kind of comes down to putting your money where your mouth is. If doing those things helps him lock in and perform well, but also helps energize the fandom, then you really don't want to mess with it IMO. I think it's clear most fans really love his appreciation for them and the moments when he comes to hype them up.

His dad could be a tool, so maybe it’s in his genes.  But he also tirelessly supports other Husker sports and is our number one recruiter.  By all accounts he’s a great teammate and works very hard.  Does this annoy you as well?

the Tom Rathman days of quietly handing the ref the ball after scoring are long gone.

I'm with you on the late slides, but had the opposite reaction to his post-game celebrating. That actually made me more excited for next season. Raiola, who is proving to be a major recruiting asset, is all in on Nebraska. He was exhorting the Husker fans in the stands. He was having fun. The whole team was having fun. That made me feel good.

I was in high school when the old man was center.  I just remember him being a bad MFer.

I agree the Tom Rathman or Barry Sanders days are over.  Every receiver in the country now signals first down.  Every player in the basketball court has a confused look when a foul is called on them.

i think he reflects poorly on his character.  He looks like a poor leader.  Again, just my opinion.

Win the LOS, don’t give the ball away, and play competent special teams is a formula for winning games.

Yesterday we only did one of those 3 things and it almost bit us in the a$$.

I don’t disagree.  People are excited.  I’m just a grumpy old man.

I guess him going to get Rahmir’s TD ball and ensure he got it to him on the bench was D baggish as well. Sure didn’t see anyone else on the team going to the ball guy go to get that ball for Rahmir, they were all heading to the bench.
