As a coordinator in college?  In the NFL?  As a head coach?  The dudes forgotten more about the game than frost knows.

I couldn't care less how well UMASS did offensively in an arbitrary season...or anything like that.  

Not that this really matters...because players change and sos changes, but Pitt was 11th this year in yards per point and 16th in points per play.

Nebraska was 111th and 71st in those categories. 

The guy can coach, has proven it at every level, with high success going back to his head coaching job at new haven where they were dubbed the best offense in all of college football.. that was a long time ago.  Whipple will be a much better play caller and, regardless of yards, we will score way more efficiently than under frost.

Not saying he can't coach but I don't anticipate our offense to be elite year 1. Hope I am surprised, and it happens though.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Whipple is a very good coach and will help us in numerous ways but it gets a bit tiresome when people attribute too much credit to coaches when they stumble upon top level talent. I believe a fair amount of that happened with Frost at Oregon and UCF as well. Hopefully Thompson is that good that he makes the staff look like sorcerers.

… or a penalty or false start. Execution was as much to blame as play calling. Both failed at crucial times, repeatedly.

Worth pointing out what he was taking over - UMass in 2013 averaged 11.7 points per game, good for 123rd. They were also 122nd in YPG. A one year jump to 27ppg/78th was incredibly impressive and unsustainable, which is why they dropped back down a bit (still double what he took over) before the sustained growth.

2018 Pitt was 94th in ppg (25.6), and 98th in YPG. Also had to replace 2 1,000 yard rushers. 

Meanwhile as you pointed out, we were below average PPG but also 21st in YPG - so he's working from a better starting place, and I'm optimistic it can be a quicker fix. He does have to replace a 4-year starter at QB but the portal made that a lot easier.

Pitt transitioned from a super run heavy offense to a pass heavy attack.  They did a 180°shift in philosophy.   It's not apples to apples, at all.
