Raaaaaaaandy

I watched some of his stuff and just wasn't impressed.

His antics were funnier than his jokes, and they were only funny because he was making a fool of himself.

different eras...different comedic stylesIt's like comparing movies from different eras
I have not heard one comedian from this era that was even comparable to Hicks. Hicks' material was ground breaking and he opened many minds with his philosophical/comedic rants while inspiring many bands, writers, and comedians. He was original.

Name one comedian from this era who has an original act. Name one comedian today who has thought provoking material. Name one comedian from this era whose act carried a message with it.

What was Randy's message? He sounds like any other comedian from this era (oh wait, but he has a freakin' DJ). Boring and unoriginal. Talking about the same subjects that have been hashed and rehashed so many times that their whole act is predictable.

So, yeah, I guess you're right. You can't compare a comedian from a past era like Hicks to the current era.

his Randy character is just that...a character that was created for the movie Funny People

why does comedy need to have a message or a lesson with it? It's not church...people go to listen to comedy to escape reality and laugh. And everyone likes to laugh to different material.

I wasn't saying Aziz is the funniest comedian ever, but I like some of his stuff (see Human Giant)

To each their own

The character is actually a parody of Dane Cook and Kat Williams. He's pretty much mocking them.
Well in that case...he's pretty spot on, except for the fact that I think Kat is hilarious...he is not.
You had to think DJ Ole Youngin was funny though:

"I was a dental hygienist, WORKING ON DEM TEETH."

"Randy and me got three rules. 1. They aint ready. 2. m-f'rs need to know! 3. Getchyour sh#t!"

and the porn scene is classic:

"Dr. Randy will see you know."

"OOOHHH, two Randy's in the mix."

"What up Evan Stone!"

(Evan Stone is famous for among other things, his countless appearance in many Cinemax B films that I have watched.
