Recent Status Updates

Team HuskerBoard
On the side there it looks like husker B-rent is going to a strip joint. The word titties is not going to make the cut for allowable words....I'd probably be okay with it in the forums and certainly okay with it in the Woodshed.

But that's out in the open.

Did we figure out how to delete words in the status portion on the right hand side? Below is what he wrote. I will reply in the status and PM him copy and pasting what is on the side.

husker B-rent who said titties and beer?!?!?!?!?!

Okay here is what I wrote:

Good Morning husker B-rent, We noticed you updated your status. We feel the language you used for this forum was a little over the top. If it were in another forum, espepcailly woodshed your fine. It's just out there for everyone to see. Please reply to my PM and follow up with me or reply in the recent status update forum in the upper right hand corner. Your not suspended or increased warning level, just want to make sure we're on the same page. Thanks for being a member of the board, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact any of us. Until then, I look forward to your reply. Thanks Eric

I tried to write it in the status update thing, but there is a limit on words.

You can edit a member's status by going to their profile (click on their name or avatar). On the right hand side near the top is the option to Edit Member.

The status updates seem to be a problem for this sort of thing. Maybe we should articulate or stress that certain things are not going to be OK.

I like this idea, but it brings up something that's been bugging me a little of late - how?

What I means is this - there are members that don't get our newletters (they opted out), so a mass email doesn't work. Not to mention, the email goes to the address given at registration - and not everyone keeps their email addresses updated.

We already know some members don't read pinned topics. We need some kind of means where we can contact every member for announcements. What I'd like to see is a mass PM feature. People seem to read their PMs when they log in - and until they log in, it isn't an issue.

I don't think the Board offers that option, but I'll hunt through the Control Panel to see if I missed it. In the meantime, does anyone have any other ideas how we can make announcements that are really seen by everyone? Of course, whatever that might be, we need to use it sparingly. If not, people will eventually ignore it, as well.

Maybe we put something in the board headers for a period of time? Like in big letters "IMPORTANT NEWS HERE" or something like that. Then link to a post in board feedback or some other forum.

I was more thinking since statuses are a new feature, a small "rules reminder, given the new board features" thread could be pinned in the main board, maybe linking it to a separate discussion thread under Board Feedback. Maybe a "posts or statuses" edit could be made to the board rules - but I think as long as it's out there, it's going to be OK.

Doesn't strike me as the kind of thing that's important enough to contact everyone by PM over. If we're going to experience extended downtime, perhaps - I think it'd hit people as strange more than anything if we went to such lengths to advise them on status changes.

But for general cases I like Dave's idea.

The Maudfather had a status update that said, "Holy tits, I'm drunk." I edited it, then sent the following PM:

Just wanted to drop you a note to explain why I edited your recent status to remove the word "tits". Since the status posts are viewable by anyone and they appear on the opening page, we try and keep them somewhat "family friendly". Not a problem in a forum, but we don't want people coming to the board for the first time and being offended at the thought that their kids could find us and immediately see something like that. Hope you understand, and thanks for being a member.
