I realized lately it's not always that apparent when we have a new commit (apart from the status celebrations that percolate through the board index). So I wanted to give this a try.
I made an "Announcement" via the ModCP that will stay up for a week, visible across all forums and basically containing links to his profile and to the recruiting forum.
This should be pretty visible, isn't limited to the Husker recruiting forum, and doesn't add a locked thread with zero replies while achieving basically the same thing.
It also doesn't use up board index real estate (which is often times reserved for different purposes), and, *any* moderator can do this, which can help us get these announcements up faster.
We can use the same feature for other commits (basketball, volleyball, etc) or any other kind of news or thread we want to spotlight -- the announcement is very unintrusive, and there's no problem with having two or three up at once (if we get four commits in a week, though, maybe we'll roll it all into one announcement by the 4th one).
Thoughts? Hopefully you recruitniks and Twitter guys can help out here
