Didn't we just ban an account for generally posting nonsense all over the forum? Who was that?

This Redtillimdead guy seems to have taken up right where that guy left off. He's been posting any random thought that comes into his head throughout the forums, and a lot of people are pretty ticked off at him. The worst of it is, he seems to want to spam all over the Recruiting forums, and this time of year we can't have that.

With that in mind, I have suspended his posting ability for the time being. I sent him a message explaining why, and that he would be removed from suspension after Signing Day. I know that's a drastic step, but I don't know what else to do. I had him on Mod Approval about two weeks ago, but after I took him off he went right back to the same nonsense.

I'm beginning to think he's just trolling.

Are you thinking of "Not since 97"? Don't recall that he was banned.

Is what he's doing derailing threads, or is he just starting nonsense threads?

IP says he's posting from Des Moines, but that doesn't prove much. But all 25 of his IP addresses are in the same range, and all show as Des Moines. Interestingly enough, another member has posted with at least one of his IPs - GSG5545. However, the vast majority of GSG5545's posts come from a Nebraska IP address, so I don't think that proves anything. Both use Yahoo! as their email, but the actual addresses are different.

He causes a lot of problems, although I have to admit the backlash towards him is distracting too, and I'm not that pleased with the users who are doing it.

It seems to mostly come from a popular opinion that he starts useless threads, and now whenever he posts everybody gives him crap. No idea if he did create useless threads or not, I don't remember.

I am behind the suspension of his posting though as none of that excuses the spamming he has been doing.

One thing, though: it seems like a lot (or all?...) of his previous posts have been disapproved. I read through a lot of threads where he has posts that are harmless and I think can stand. Should we, on a case by case basis, re-approve these if we see them? Should we re-approve them all, with the understanding that the offending posts/threads are locked up or put away?

I did that (hid all his posts). I'll bring them all back when he's returned to posting, but since SO MANY people were quoting him and bitching, I felt it was better to eliminate all his posts from view for the time being. It's a check-box in the Warning Panel, and you just uncheck it when you remove the suspension.

I agree with the displeasure over the other users going after him. It's unnecessary and most of the ones doing it should know better. I chalk it up to boredom, and his instigating.

EDIT - I remember there was one thread he started that I specifically went back and approved because it did engender some decent conversation. I think that's the thread from which I removed posts and created the thread in the Shed, but I can't recall the title right now.
