Ric Flair

This is not someone trying to have honest debate or discussion. This is someone trying to stir the pot. This is now the second thread he has started in P&R since returning from his suspension to defend himself. He was previously told not to do so and to air grievances about suspensions via PM or the thread in the Woodshed.

Liberals will tolerate any opinion, so long as they agree with it. What a bunch of buffoons. They simply describe any opinion they disagree with as intolerant, and then silence it in the name of tolerance.

I was recently suspended from this board for two weeks for suggesting that transgenderism is a mental illlness. That is, the problem isn’t that the person’s chromosomes and anatomy are wrong, but that the brain is simply confused. So the solution isn’t hormones and surgery in a misguided attempt to make the body confirm to the mind, but in therapy to fix what is wrong with the mind. I was told that my opinion in this regard might be offensive to transgender people. So the solution was to silence me...on this purported discussion board...for offering an opinion that some might find offensive.

I cited the opinions of innumerable psychiatrists and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM–5), published by the American Psychiatric Association. So my opinion is supported by experts in the field and their definitive guide to such matters. It didn’t matter. The mere possibility of hurt feelings trumps all.

Some discussion board.

IIRC, he has taken extended personal breaks before. I vaguely remember him doing so earlier this year around February or March.

Personally, his absence is welcome.

I don't know what to do with this guy. I suspended Ric for 45 days in late June for his third warning in less than a year. The offense that earned him his third warning was telling another board member to 'Grow up, snowflake.'

His first post upon returning was this:

I don't think bitching about suspensions is necessarily a bannable offense, but his woe is me attitude and consistent campaigns to justify his ridiculousness is tiresome.

I read through the thread. He had 45 days to get clarification about his suspension. He has clearly made the assumption that his suspension was based on his political views and is running with it (despite your affirmation in opposition to this).

If he wants to act like a public martyr, I think the best strategy would be to response by clearly explaining the reason for his suspension and alleviating any concern that it was due to political views. I would also say some members are choosing to get a little chippy with him, nothing individually egregious, but I am concerned there is a bit of a mob mentality in that particular thread.

We probably need to keep an eye on the situation directed at both sides.

Well said, @Thanks_Tom RR.

Ric and I had some lengthy back and forths through PM this weekend. I think he understands now because he did not respond to my most recent message on Saturday.

He initially tried to defend himself by saying other people call Trump supporters 'racists/Nazis/etc.' all the time and so he doesn't understand how what he said was inflammatory. I reaffirmed his suspension by explaining a) other people using derogatory language does not give him the right to do so b) he still tried to provoke somebody into a fight by using potentially derogatory language and c) he needs to use the Report button if he feels like someone is violating a board rule. To his credit, he did use the Report button this weekend when knapplc went a little too far and I addressed it.

Ultimately, I think Ric does have a bit of a point - it's very common for a core group of people here to go after Trump supporters. As such, I try to be fair in the adjudication but it's been very hard to convince him that his behavior, not his political opinions, are the source of his problems.

I'm going to start dropping some notes in this thread about Ric's behavior... choices he's making that aren't directly a violation of board rules but nonetheless inappropriate. This is mainly for my own tracking purposes.

----------

Today, Ric took the Omarosa Chronicles thread in P&R off track when he began continually complaining about his previous suspensions. I moved approximately 15 posts to the Woodshed's tangent thread (not all of them were his). Anecdotally speaking, this is not the first time he's tried to start arguments with other posters since returning from his most recent suspension. He is trying to play the victim and convince others that he's being punished for being a conservative.

Strangely enough, I think knapplc might be onto something by claiming @Archy1221 is @Ric Flair.

Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of hard evidence for it. I did a brief IP/email search and there are a lot of disrepancies. The only thing I found is anecdotal. It's suspiciously anecdotal, but anecdotal nonetheless.

Similar posting habits/sentence structure. This is just one example I readily found. Posters don't often mention somebody's user name when responding to them.

Not at all Harry.  Did it hurt yours?

I can’t figure out the point in going after a politicians kids when he is angry with the politician.  Get pissed all you want with the actions of elected officials.  But leave it there.

I guess you feel otherwise and think that families are ok to go after.  Sad:(

Do a little reading yourself Cliff. The issue is that Democrats want to fix elections by counting votes from ineligible voters...whether illegals, felons, dead people, whatever. It’s the same nonsense they’ve been engaged in for decades and are now attempting in Florida and Arizona.

If people are too stupid to obtain proper ID or register to vote correctly, I would honestly prefer they not vote.

IMO I'm not overly interested to be on a witch hunt at the moment, but I could be convinced otherwise. knapplc constantly claims people are socks for previously banned members (particularly if they disagreed with him in P&R). It's also genuinely amazing just how much space some of these people take up in knapplc's head. I rarely pick up on a sock account just by posting behavior alone...

I'm hopeful @The Whale will stay true to their word and never post here again, but regardless...

I did a little IP digging and noticed one major IP crossover with the poster Ric Flair from a few years ago that we banned. I don't see any other hard evidence at the moment, but circumstantially, I looked back and notice that Ric was a bit of an abrasive conversationalist. Swore frequently. Made a lot of loud, bold claims. Not too unlike our friend The Whale here.

If we can prove it, I think it'd be worth an insta-ban. The Whale has made no real effort to be a positive community member here.
