Roxy15

Of course, that put the onus on us to keep cleaning it up.  And I'm not really that fond of that idea.
I agree. I've personally been fine providing Roxy some leniences given her situation and the fact that she's not doing any of this to be malicious. She genuinely wants to participate and be involved. But, I think this one of those situations where it's reasonable for us to draw the line.

I was leaning towards some kind of a PM that encourages Roxy to be more selective of what she posts. Perhaps also just being honest - her routine carpet bombing of that sub forum is a bit of a turnoff and it doesn't seem to be provide much value. I wouldn't tell it to her like that, of course, but it'd be better if she shared only her 'best of the best.' Things she really thinks would be of value as opposed to making it a repository for every one of her food related thoughts?

Also @Mavric I can only see my posts in that sub forum, so it must be an admin-only tool to still be able to see all the threads in there. I'd be a fan of turning that function off (or reverting to what it was) if we agree that a PM to Roxy is that right call.

Yeah, that's fine with me.  I just thought I'd get some feedback.  I haven't been back in the thread to see what's been talked about in there.

I think it's kind of funny that people sporadically get so worked up about Roxy's posting habits, yet she disappeared for three months and there were practically no new threads started. It was mostly JJ bumping some of his old content.

That said, I do think there's something to be said for just completely overloading the forum with new recipes. Roxy has posted 25 of them in five days and was on such a strange roll that she even posted a thread about ear aches in Big Red Recipes.

I still don't know if I have a really good answer for how (or if we even need) to manage Roxy's board contributions, but content dumping like does feel a tad aggressive/unnecessary.

Yeah, I've thought a couple times about trying to merge them into more of a category thread - Main dishes, etc.  But I just don't care enough to take the time.

It is one click to mark them all as read.  I realize that doesn't help the people who really like to check the New Content list or whatever but other than that you basically don't ever have to see them.  So I guess I'm not sure why it's quite such a big deal.

If Huskerboard wishes to pay me a salary commiserate to my current then I will happily manage all of Roxy's threads.

Jokes aside, I still don't really think it's that big of a deal either. Mostly just found it humorous that people tried to argue her contributions inhibited other people from wanting to take part in that forum. Pretty sure JJ was one of them. Yet, despite her disappearing from that forum for almost three months, only 10 other threads were active and nine of them were old threads. Only one new one was started.

So I've started cutting down on Roxy's random search engine type threads i.e. 'garden tips' or the more recent ones about how to do metric conversions. They all seem more like sporadic thought dumps than any meaningful board contribution. They're also things that someone savvy enough to use a message board would know that they could hop on Google and figure out within 10 seconds.

Potential Roxy problems may be imminent...

I've started locking/condensing some of her threads. I don't know what finally snapped in me but the sheer volume of content dumping she does finally hit a bit of a peak with me. And it wasn't just in the recipe forum. Also happened in the BS lounge. It might be because myself and another person started threads in the recipe forum within the last couple of weeks that have already been relegated into general obscurity. I didn't expect anyone to be enthralled with my conversation on homemade oat milk, but it was at least something unique and intended for conservation vs. whatever latest salsa recipe Roxy has tried.

And then she also started throwing in household tips/tricks that could probably all be condensed into one thread, and one of them didn't really have anything to do with recipes other than it was about cinnamon.

I don't know. I never ended up PM'ing her last year because she goes through spurts where she just disappears.

All, I'm going to PM Roxy about her posting habits. Her circumstance is unique, but quite frankly, I do think this needs addressing. It's gone on for awhile and it's gotten worse in recent months with the inclusion of just... random thought dumps/tips. Some of them don't even have anything to do with cooking.

Since she was the one who reported JJ for trolling her, I thought about starting it off by thanking her for the report and then easing into a discussion about her posting habits. I then plan to offer the solution of her own unique thread for sharing recipes. A separate Roxy recipe's section would still just flood the "new thread" section which is one of the gripes among the people who are irritated by her content.

If she fusses and leaves the board, I think it kind of is what it is. We can be amicable and need her to meet us halfway on this.

Yeah, thanks for doing that.  Sorry I haven't gotten around to commenting on the Report.

I do think people make too big of a deal about it.  But I don't think it's out of line to ask her make a few changes.  Even if she would just post what she does but keep it in a couple threads instead of a new thread each time I think most people wouldn't care anymore.

That's essentially what I ended up telling her - I said the habits were causing some participation/volume issues in that thread and that our solution is to create one 'master' or a couple of 'master' threads to house everything.

I also didn't really leave room for a no answer... I was polite, but I essentially said something needs to be done because the status quo is no longer acceptable.

FWIW - I'm glad we addressed the situation with Roxy. She was very receptive to the request and has changed her strategy.

But, stuff like what's happening in this thread just proves that people are a$$h@!es. Guy has no business being that vague/trolly by posting a comment like "I disagree!". Pretty obvious he's just being irritating.

I'm debating giving Roxy a general conduct warning for two memes/images she recently shared.

The first was a joke targeted at sexual orientation/gender identity. I moved this to Offending Posts, but something like that definitely felt like a violation of our fifth board guideline. I believe I mentioned in the warning notes that I felt moving it to Offending Posts would suffice, but then...

The second was this post about Nancy Pelosi that she put in the BS forum the next day. This one is a little ticky tack, but if it had any kind of home on the board... it probably belonged in the political cartoon thread in the P&R forum (not the BS forum) since we try to keep politically charged posts secluded to P&R. Oddly enough, she posted the same image in P&R, as well.

Perhaps a warning is a tad aggressive overall, but I'm not really vibing with a couple of her decisions today.
