Rum, Tequila, Mezcal, ect.

Interesting. The only tequila I've ever been fond of is the Espolon Reposado

Haven't found a Blanco that I like

I do like some cocktails with mezcal though. I like the smoky/earthy flavors

Do they still make the ones with the worms?

Epsolon is good, a lot of die-hard tequila drinkers look down on the fact it's not additive free.

For a similar price as a bottle of Epsolon, get a bottle of El Tesoro Blanco. It's one of the best Blancos on market, and you can usually get it for $40ish.  If you don't want to buy a bottle without trying it, Hook & Lime in the Old Market and the Corner Kick will have it and you can get a glass neat to see what you think of it.

LOVE Tequilas.  It's my sipper of choice.  Currently enjoying Ensueno (new distiller, got a bottle from their first batch and it's really good) and Siete Leguas Repo and special occasion will have a glass of Tears. I'll probably break out a glass of Tears for the Bud fight.

Where are you finding G4 and Fortaleza??!!??  Both of those are my bucket list, and I prefer not to have to have them shipped if at all possible. I usually either run to KC or have friends pick me up good juice when they head to the twin cities, but I've always missed on both of those.  I'd like to get my hands on some tapatio as well, but that's not nearly as high on my list.

Another great option that's not going to break the bank is El Tesoro, can usually find it for $40ish a bottle and for that price, it may be the best option on the market.
Doh meant to put Tesoro! Another great brand for sure. The Tears I've heard is fantastic buy I haven't had the pleasure of trying it yet!! Soon though I should be able to. How does it rank for you? I'll have to check out the Ensueno I haven't heard of them! As for Fortaleza and G4 I live in Biloxi, MS and regularly travel to New Orleans, Houston, Florida as well. I got both Fortaleza SS and Anejo in New Orleans about a year ago but it's vanished since. The G4 is actually pretty easy to find in the Texas and Florida markets. Just grabbed the G4 108 at Total Wine in Florida last weekend and I grabbed the G4 Madera Blanco Lote 2 in Chattanooga TN about 6 months ago. Definitely worth seeking out as both are phenomenal! Not sure where you could find them in your market. I would imagine Denver would have a pretty great agave but that may be a bit far.

Give me Mezcal, the worm, some limes and 2 street tacos FTW

I love gasoline and turpentine.  With or without the scorpion

Hell yeah that's my kind of good time!

If you like gasoline and turpentine you're probably the perfect person for this thread. It's why I love rum and mezcal they are the most insane tasting things you could ever imagine! You should try some Rum Fire or a Hatian Clarin like the Le Rocher. These rums take weird too a whole new level  :horns2

Man, that's nice having those nearby.  Minny is supposed to have Fortaleza, but it's never in stock when I go or friends go.  I'll have to look into Denver and see what stores may have it. I've contemplated ordering from a shop in FL and even joining their tequila of the month club. I just don't go through bottles fast enough to get a new bottle monthly.

I found out about Ensueno from a podcast I listen to, they had the distiller on and was talking about the process of starting up a new label.  I got a pre-order before it started shipping to stores. I know Nebraska wouldn't have it, and since I was getting straight from him, I knew the price would be good too. Since you enjoy good tequila, I would recommend both the Agave Social Club and Whiskey Tequila Friday.  WTF is great as they'll pair a whiskey with the tequila, give you info on both bottles and then see how the two compliment each other in terms of flavors.

As for Tears, IMO it lives up to its reputation. It's one of, it not, my favorite tequila. But due to the price of the bottle, I only break it out for special occasions. That and with Nebraska having bad distribution it's not easily found here, it'll take an effort to get another bottle when it's time, so I am taking it very slow.

I had friends who's fathers or uncles would bring back varieties of tequila from Mexico.  I don't recall any of the brands but I know they tasted good.  Unfortunately I had a couple bad experiences from drinking too much tequila and now I can't even stand the smell of it let alone drink it.  I used to drink a lot of rum and coke.  I gave up drinking soda so my rum consumption went down as well.  I had done Sailor Jerry and DR pepper once and it was pretty good.

It took me about 20 years to get over a bad experience with tequila while I was in college. Went to the Brass Rail (early 80’s) for a frat brother’s 21st. Not sure if I made it to 21 shots or not but I passed out between downtown and our frat house by one of those large pools on the mall walkway. Woke up with some guy nudging me with his foot “you okay buddy?”. Proceeded to be sick for a good day. I couldn’t stand the smell of tequila again until my 40’s

That's my wife. I have to wait until she goes up to bed before I open a bottle. If we are out, and I order one, I have to have on the farthest end of the table away from her.

I think the last time I had tequila was my buddy's college graduation party.  His entire family was there (Mexicans).  I couldn't turn around without someone handing me a shot.  I don't even think there was another option of alcohol there.  My fiancé drinks it and its tough for me cause it makes her frisky and I have to keep myself from throwing up in her face when i smell it on her breath

@Nebfanatic

Is Tito's super popular all over?  Is it now the vodka of choice?
All my friends will only drink Tito's.  I dont get it.  I just stick to smirnof.  I've chsllenged them to do a taste test to see if they could tell the difference between Tito's, grey goose and smirnof but they wont do it.  Afraid they wont be able to pick out their beloved Tito's

I would personally not be able to tell the difference from any brand of vodka.  My guess is most people can't but I think most people pretend that they can.

I know it is "illegal" but I am sure plenty of bar owners, at one time or another, have switched out some booze and poured in some cheaper stuff into an expensive bottle.

I can tell the difference between Higher end stuff and the dirt cheap stuff if I was just taking a shot.  I couldn't tell you the difference between any of the main brands.  If its mixed in something forget about it.

For me, even in mixers, I can tell the cheap stuff.  Tastes like rubbing alcohol, ruins the mixed drink and makes me want to reverse if it's a shot.
