I understand your point, the only thing I’d say is that coaches are notorious mercenaries. ND and OU both had their HCs poached by other power programs showing it can happen to anyone.

Not saying this definitively but our defense is likely to take a step backwards next year. Maybe just a small one, but maybe a big one. In a world of what have you done for me lately, that could/would hurt White and Knighton’s stock. They’re taking money and a chance to turnaround a rock bottom situation where they will look really good if they do so.

Yep. We’re borderline irrelevant and fans just don’t want to admit it.  Students attending UNL today have witness just as many losing seasons as winning seasons with the peak occurring when they were 4-5 years old in the 09-12 range.  
 

flipside, let’s not pretend like Tony white didn’t have his faults.  He looked awesome because of how comparatively inept satts offense was.  Defense didn’t take a step forward this year and was inconsistent week to week.

Hasn’t been talked about, but if I’m Rhule, I make a call to Dave Merritt and ask what he wants in order to come be DC.   Nebraska would garner the attention of any top flight DB recruit, I have no doubt the secondary would be massively improved and he has been menyined as candidate for NFL DC jobs but didn’t want to move his family.   He’s been learning from one of the best in the NFL business and having his son at NU may be the draw that pulls him to the college level.

Depends what stats one values. Passing defense was below average, 3rd down conversion middle of the pack, half our schedule ranked in the bottom 30 offenses nationally 

whites a loss, no doubt, Rhule needs a smart choice as a replacement, but I’m not gonna sit here and pretend like he’s spags with the chiefs.  Coulda been more aggressive and the inconsistency was glaring week to week

I wish we would have hired Bob Stoops in 1997 when Tom announced his 'retirement'.  25 years of chaos would have been avoided.  :facepalm:

i think white did as well as he could have done with the talent he had to work with and butler and snow circling him like sharks. i didn't understand the people expecting this defense to be a lot better than last years they just don't have the guys to be a top 10 kind of defense.

Scoring Defense would be all that I value.  I have no idea where they ranked with that but that is all that matters.
