I probably like Knighton leaving less than White. White was expected to leave at some point, Rhule has a job in front of him keeping that D-Line room together now.
I keep seeing this that Butler was the shoo in to replace White, but I guess I don't recall seeing much about that other than message board people bringing it up. (Not that Rhule would have up and said it, but there would have been more official "news")Yes, but he was brought here in a rush after Cooper left mid-summer. I didn't know if Mav might have any insight as to whether or not Rhule had changed his mind or if it's locked up with Butler as the next DC.
I mean if Rhule wants the best shot at winning he will go out and find the best defensive mind he can find. If not and just goes with Butler he could be writing his own death sentence. Need to build a great staff to have any chance at winning
I think it's a simple as some of his best players - Ty and Nash - are seniors and are leaving. It was highly likely he was going to be leaving after this season no matter what, and with his most important players gone his stock is probably at a high.I don't think that's really the reason why he's leaving.
Did you watch our secondary this year? He only has 1 year as a DC and that team was 7-5 with a very average defense. His own childhood friend wouldn't hire him as DC, even after having a good secondary in Buffalo. Does that not tell you something? Please tell me how Butler is a death sentence for Rhule if he becomes the DC? What are you basing that off of? The guy was almost hired as an NFL DC last year. Does that count for anything?
If so, who is the "best defensive mind" that is out there? Bob Diaco was the "best defensive mind" and we hired him. How'd that work out?
Butler could surprise and be good, but his only year he was DC at Penn State they ranked 60th giving up 26.2 ppg. Maybe he got better, but he doesn't have a ton of experience actually being the guyPlease tell me how Butler is a death sentence for Rhule if he becomes the DC? What are you basing that off of? Really don't want to jump to Butler is not the guy at this point. The issue I have is if there is someone more qualified and is interested, will Rhule go after him? He has proven he is loyal to who he knows or has some connection with (I get it to a point, but look at our ST). If the spot opens, I just hope Rhule will look at all options instead of just buddies. We have to find the best. This is not a situation where we did such a great job and the head guy moves on and we have the next guy lined up to continue with no drop off. We are scrapping for wins, recruits, and Rhule is in a critical period to go to the next level with this team. Go out and get the best. Jim Leonhard is on my short list.

Yep, he basically needs a new staff.Perhaps.
Replacing your OC, DC, & DL coach plus should be his WR/special teams coach..odds are not on his side. In year 3.
Everything I've read points to Butler being the next DC.Yes, but he was brought here in a rush after Cooper left mid-summer. I didn't know if Mav might have any insight as to whether or not Rhule had changed his mind or if it's locked up with Butler as the next DC.
