We rank 20th nationally but 7th in the big ten. Def good enough to be a 9-10 win team with a competent offense and special teams. I just don’t feel our defense is that imposing and too often we make an average to below average qb look all conference level for me to be that upset at whites departure

Army’s DC is Nate Woody. They do run a 3-4 scheme, but it also has flexible tenants like TW’s scheme. Army’s scheme has been described as very similar to the Big Nickle scheme popular in the NFL. Woody’s scheme allows Army to overcome some of their physical size limitations, I would really hate to lose him. That being said I could easily see Woody’s scheme overlapping a lot of what the Blackshirts currently do and be less of a change than going to a 4-3.
I think the worst part of the secondary has been poor safety play and soft coverage. I think we just need better safeties and I think the coverage will be corrected by whoever is next.

Agreed. A little bit of of addition by subtraction if they have the guys. Gifford took really bad angles the last 5 games that lead to extra yards. He was good to have around as an experienced guy who knows the defense but have to have someone more dynamic at the position
