I got bored while working, so I decided to check out the Running Back stats we have, and to be honest, a lot more shocked than I thought I was going to be. Figured I would share.

Rex Burkhead: 4 Games

  • Receiving: 4 receptions, 29 yards, 7.25 yards/catch, 1 TD, 7.3 yards/game
  • Total Yards: 421 yards

Ameer Abdullah: 6 Games

  • Rushing: 86 attempts, 514 yards, 5.98 yards/play, 7 TDs, 85.67 yards/game
  • Receiving: 10 receptions, 108 yards, 10.8 yards/catch, 1TD, 18 yards/game
  • Punt Return: 13 returns, 214 yards, 16.46 yards/play, 1 TD, 35.7 yards/game
  • Kickoff Return: 13 returns, 270 yards, 20.77 yards/play, 45 yards/game
  • All Purpose: 122 Plays, 1106yards, 9.1yards/play, 184.3 yards/game

Braylon Heard: 6 Games

  • Rushing: 30 attempts, 208 yards, 6.93 yards/play, 2 TD’s, 34.64 yards/game
  • Receiving: 3 receptions, 18 yards, 6 yards/catch, 3 yards/game
  • Total yards: 226

Imani Cross: 6 Games

  • 31 attempts, 241yards, 7.8 yards/play, 2 TDs, 40.2 yards/game

Good stuff. We have some beasts as RB's. looking at the yrds/carry the O line doesn't look bad in rushing production. Screw passing, no chance of INT's and we eat the clock. Just further shows that what is killing us, aside from he lack of D, is the INT's and fumbles.

That's exactly what shocked me! Maybe its because all they have to do is push and make a whole, rather than try to hold off a defender for a longer period of time? I do know our WR's, like Enunwa, helps our running game a lot, especially when they get in the secondary. I forgot to add Janovich and Marrow too, but I think we have the clue lol.

Wide receivers is what I was doing next, but too long of a list to keep doing it at work lol. A lot of people have gotten receptions this year, which is great, and due to receiver error, they are only accountable for 3 dropped balls all year.

it really sucks that we have so many threats at WR yet are so incapable of exploiting them. honestly, with that group of RBs who cares if Martinez is dual threat or not. I don't want to turn this into a Martinez bashing thread because that is not my intention at all...but with this offense - give me a game manager like Ganz or any McElroy/McCarron at Bama. the last couple years that wasn't the case, we needed Martinez mobile...but now I'm fine w/ lead feet when you have these 4 + our TEs + our WRs.

Here is a question...in the second half if ameer runs 2 kicks/punts backs and venrik marc only gets one, can a case be made for abdullah being returner of the year?

If you had told me that we'd have that kind of production from the running back position through six games and we'd have a 4-2 record with one blowout loss, then I would have laughed you out of the conversation.

Phenomenal job thus far by our backs. Just need to hold on to the ball a little better.

Where was Heard vs. Northwestern? Rex goes down and AA gets all the carries. Heard had one carry for 18 yards. He is averaging nearly 7 yards per carry, looks slippery, and has a knack for falling forward to get extra yards.

I was wondering why we didn't play Heard more, but maybe they figured Ameer was doing a good enough job and leave him in lol. I also thought Janovich should have gotten some carries since we burned his redshirt.

Riddle me this: With all that talent why in the world does Coach Beck call pass plays???? Run the dang ball!!! I just don't understand that. We're running the ball successfully and wearing NW's defense down then we get pass happy? Someone explain this to me!!

Looks like it was pretty even play during the game. WAY more success through the air, THAT is why we threw more. Time wasn't our friend either, you have to remember that as well.
