** Scott Frost megathread all things SF***

Frost has dual threat QB's.  Why would he keep a couple of pocket passing guys here, when they could go elsewhere and be who they are?  Gebbia and POB are not dual threat.  They can't run those plays that Milton runs for UCF.  Vedral, a local kid, might come with him and in two years we are deep in dual threat players.  What Riley and his crew have brought in here are statue players.  One dimensional.  UCF has athletes and finds a home for them if they can ball.  I am not sure that any of these players would even sniff the field under Frost.  First off, they will have to show some kind of passion.  Passion for the school, and passion for the team.  I think that would weed out a lot of players like Keyshawn Jr and co.

Are you specifically talking about QBs or the whole roster in general?

UCF's starting QB is averaging nearly 300 yards per game on 25 pass attempts per game.  Don't confuse successful passing with an offense that doesn't run the ball.  The ability to hit the big play from an RPO or play action pass is built off a successful run game.

Yeah, stats!

Can't take NFL performance as an equivalent to CFB performance.  Dolphins fans are not fond of Nick Saban either.

Don't think Chip's coming here anyway.

My beef with him isn't even the performance, although he was atrocious in the NFL.

He's just a weird dude. Very socially awkward. Was always kind of a pretentious d*#$ to the media in Philly. Lost his locker room relatively early. Even had some of the black players hinting at some subtle racism there. I don't know if I buy that, but I absolutely believe he struggled tremendously to relate to his players. His personality would go over horribly in Lincoln. At least Leach would be funny.

He also drove out the best talent on the team (Shady, DJax, Maclin) for whatever reason. That to me smacks of poor judgment.

But ultimately, with Kelly, his system is god. He elevates it above all & thinks as long as he gets guys that execute his system well, their relative talent isn't as important & he can let guys like that walk. It's why he was a huge flop in the NFL.

I agree, he's probably (hopefully) not coming here. Just not a road we need to go down.

Pfft.  I reckon your success is just a matter of luck and falling into favorable circumstances.  Probably not even an average coach but just have good assistants.  Blowing out a bunch of cupcakes in that joke of a conference is supposed to impress?  Yep, doubtful that you could make the Huskers as successful as UCF.  If you could do that then I'd say you're a good coach.  I dare you to try.... unless you're chicken... OK, I double dare you.

I see what you did there

Basically our Qb's wouldn't really fit into what Frost is doing at UCF.  I don't, and I don't think anyone knows what he would do here as far as a scheme on offense.  Right now its all just a pipe dream.  Its hard to think about the future when we don't really know what that future is yet.  I don't like Riley's ways, but do like the guy as a person.  Hate to see a team lose games just so we can move forward, but in all reality thats whats up right now.

Gebbia I think is fleet on his feet, but not classified as a dual threat type.  Could he be efficient as a runner/slash passer, maybe?  Would he want too is the question.  Regardless, there are alot of dual threat guys out there.  I remember Cally's first year, trying to make Daily a pocket passer, and know how that worked!

If Riley could get this current team to play with the passion that UCF had last night, man, woman and child, I might root harder for his success.  That is what I think is missing more than x and o's.  We don't play like our hair is on fire at all, and haven't since maybe the year we lost to Texas in the Big 12 champ game.  Now this season, we axed the AD already and really the writing on the wall is Riley is gone regardless.  So, passion, its going to be hard to find out there this season.  Gifford, local kid, has that passion, and it shows.

UCF has played 5 games but still a solid point you bring up

EDIT: You're right they've only played 4
Someone posted earlier that UCF was 5-0 but I didn't think that sounded right.  Their schedule got hit by a hurricane.  They cancelled 2 games but Memphis was rescheduled and played so it seems like they played 5 games.  Apparently they cancelled a game with Maine to play the Memphis game.

Mathematically 6-3+1=4

Keyshawn is loyal (was) to Riley, not Nebraska.  The dude would have stayed here if loyal to the school.  Come on.  Keyshawn saved face with removing his son from here from doing something most of these kids do.  You think the first time Jr smoked some weed was here on this campus.................?  I heard the kid liked his teammates and  coaches, but this wasn't California.   Missed home,  went home.  End of story.

You realize he's already been back to Nebraska on his own time, right? He was in Lincoln just last weekend.

Where did you get that picture of Frosty in your avatar?

I’m actually from 2020. Scott Frost was hired by Nebraska in 2017. We just won a national championship. I’m just ahead of the curve.

Actually, a friend of mine posted it on Facebook. I assume he just photoshopped it.

Nah, that's from me from HuskerBoard from a few years ago. Crappy photoshop, I spent less than five minutes on it.  I'll see if I can find the original when I get home if you want a better copy.

Those who want Frost need to hope and pray that UCF goes undefeated and/or makes a New Years 6 bowl as that's the ceiling for Group of 5 teams.  Anything short of that gives UCF some extra leverage in trying to convince Frost to stay and complete 'unfinished business'.

Also, message board Husker fans will freak out if they lose a game with a bunch of "I told you he wasn't our best option."  That's kind of what we are known for now.

Was Frost publicly named for consideration by sports sites or interviewed for the Oregon job when it was opened last year?

Or Purdue?

Or Minnesota?

Or Baylor?

Or LSU?

Or Cal?

It's hilarious because when I've said on this forum that we need a "first tier" coach on this forum and that Frost is not that guy, I was practically flamed.

Nice to see Chalk Talk saying the same things just from the standpoint of a sanity check about all of the Frost hysteria. The Frost hysteria is of course born out of Riley's terrible results, I get it.
Frost is a “first tier” coach.... Chalk Talk can kiss my butt.

i was just messing with you last time... it’s okay to want a $7 million coach but guarantees nothing IMO ... except maybe he’s a shoe contract cheater who mysteriously gets all the recruits.

113 passing attempts to 154 rushing attempts in 2017....When you have one QB hitting 68.3% and the other one 83% it tends to be successful. Not to mention 13 passing TD's to 2 INT's.  Throw in 2 backs who average 9.2 and 7.7 YPC and I don't think one can say they pass first.....They seem equally capable of truly exploiting what the D is allowing them to do....I'll take it.

Not to mention, Frost has been in numerous style offenses as a QB, OC and defender....He has played under/with/coached etc...with Seifert, TO and Kelly.  I would ASSume that he has the experience/knowledge to scheme the offense to the talent of his team as well as to the strengths/weaknesses of the defense....
