** Scott Frost megathread all things SF***

Just talked to a guy that works for me.  He's a big Ol' Miss fan.  His entire family has gone there.He asked me about the coaching situation.  The topic of Nebraska's coaching search is even a major topic of discussion down there.  Probably, somewhat, because of their own issues.

BUT...my point is, the entire country is watching this play out.  Everyone is talking about Nebraska and what we are going to do.  We need a big hire here.  Frost would be that hire.

If we hire Frost, instantly, our program gains credibility and people take notice.  Now, Frost isn't the only coach that can do that.  If we don't get Frost, we need to hire someone that continues the spotlight on our program like that.  If we accomplish that, it's much easier to keep the recruiting class together and build on what we have.  Maybe even get Bookie back???  

That's what this program needs.

 
A winning program brings in a lot of money. So its important to pay a good coach to make sure you win. Winning puts butts in seats, people buy gear, bowl game $$ etc etc. Not to mention coaches work very long hours, time away from families out recruiting, speaking obligations, booster events. Etc. Not sure how much they deserve- but it is a demanding profession.

It's illogical if people really understand what is going on.

The next head coach at Nebraska isn't going to get paid $5,000,000+ to simply teach kids how to play a sport.  They are managers of a very large organization and the most public position as a representative of the University and possibly the state.  He is also responsible for being successful in bringing in a very large portion of the entire budget for the athletic department...which, is a marketing arm of the entire University.

You put someone in that type of position in a public company and they make similar.  ALSO.....if they aren't successful, their tenure is very short.

People who complain about any of them just do not understand economics. They get paid that much because the bring in that much more money for the organization they work for. This isn't charity, companies pay them so they can make money. It is simple.

There was a tweet by someone at the U of Miami-Florida admissions office about a spike in graduate studies applications after their appearance on ESPN Gameday this weekend.  I think Alabama has seen a huge increase in enrollment since Nick Saban was hired.

I have a problem with what college coaches are paid.  A full ride scholarship has a value of what?  It's a small pittance compared to what college football coaches are making.  Colleges and coaches are reaping huge rewards while amateur athletes are out there risking their health.  Other college students can and do receive full ride academic scholarships.  Yet, they have the ability to get a job for spending money while scholarship athletes do not.  Heck, a scholarship athlete can't even trade free gifts they received at a bowl game for tattoos without getting into trouble.

Correct. You better bet your a$$ if we ever were to win another national title, I'd drop over $500 on national championship gear just to boast.
